As Rockets Rain, YOU Can Make a Difference in Israel

Like many of you, I feel like I’m living in two countries right now. Our families in Israel - both immediate members and millions bound to us inexorably by history, fate, faith and love – are under attack day and night throughout our Homeland where nearly 400 rockets have fallen in the last few days. We fight our fears, seethe with outrage, and cry with compassion.

Here in South Palm Beach County, we are not running in and out of bomb shelters with our children. We’re not afraid to sleep through an alert, kept awake by our children’s nightmares or by fears that our advanced age or disability might keep us from making it to a shelter in time. Our doctors are not on-call 24/7 as the physical and emotional toll increases with each passing hour.

But we in South Palm Beach County can make a real difference to those under siege right now through the Israel Emergency Campaign.

Last night, thousands of children were read bedtime stories in bomb shelters. More than 37,000 children live within 40 kilometers of the Gaza Strip alone. With your help, they can get out of harm’s way for some normal play.

On Wednesday, the Nachum family in Netivot emerged from their home bomb shelter to find their house destroyed. Federation funds will provide them and thousands of other victims of terror with the money and support to rebuild their homes and their lives.

And yesterday morning, a siren’s 15-second warning in Be’er Sheva was not long enough for an elderly wheelchair-bound resident to make it to a shelter – so now she must live in one. Federation’s partner programs are her sole lifeline to food, medicine and human contact.

Hamas now has the vast majority of Israel’s population within the range of rocket fire – but all of Israel is within reach of our help!

With our ongoing help, Federation’s overseas partners are already assessing and aiding on the ground, but far more is required during this crisis. Your support of the Israel Emergency Campaign will directly provide our Israeli family with social services, financial assistance, counseling and more right when and where they are needed. (These emergency campaign gifts are separate from the JFSPBC Annual Campaign.)

Our brothers and sisters in Israel desperately need your help.
100% of the funds will go directly to support Israel.

Please support the Israel Emergency Campaign.

Please stand with me to send an unmistakable message that South Palm Beach County’s Jewish community cares and stands proud in full solidarity with the people of Israel. With Israel under siege, send your support and also join us at our ISRAEL SOLIDARITY GATHERING on Wednesday, July 16 at 6:00 p.m. at B’nai Torah Congregation, 6261 SW 18th Street, Boca Raton. Let everyone know and wear blue & white!

I look forward to seeing you in solidarity and to your thoughts at asktheceo@bocafed.org on how our community can even further come together for the people of Israel at this time and always.
