Moments, Milestones and Miracles In Our Hands

Since Wednesday afternoon, I’ve been eager to share the joy and inspiration of our Lion of Judah Luncheon, “Moments, Milestones and Miracles.” Yet my message opens on a more solemn note, as our week began with reflection and mourning at the milestone passing of Israel’s former Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon.

One of Israel’s great military leaders and statesmen, Sharon’s stature spanned for decades, from the fervent fight for an independent State of Israel through the rise of our thriving homeland in the desert. As Israel’s founding generation of leaders passes, it is up to us to see that their powerful history is remembered, their memories are for blessing and their dedication lives on through the moments, milestones and miracles we ourselves enable and create.

I’m glad for this opportunity to publicly congratulate our incredible Women’s Philanthropy leadership on creating a powerful moment and milestone for more than 400 dedicated Lions at our pride’s annual gathering. Of all ages and from throughout the community, amid tears and laughter, their roar from The Polo Club was heard throughout South Palm Beach County and around the world – where their dedication and generosity do so much for so many of our family in need.

The real miracles of the afternoon came to us in the stories of Elinor, Alex, Isabel and Rachel, members of our own community whose lives have been transformed by our Lions - and by all of you who invest in our Federation’s vital work. Of course, our dollars also go even farther to Israel and 70 countries worldwide in partnership with our overseas beneficiary agencies. I urge you to take a look at these beautifully told, compelling stories by clicking here or on the photo of Rachel just below. I can assure you’ll be glad you did.

Each of the people we help has their own compelling story, and there are countless others waiting for their own miracles. It’s in our hands. If you haven’t yet made your 2014 Campaign pledge, please click here to make your difference to so many.

And don’t hesitate to get in touch with me at a asktheceo@bocafed.org to share your moments and milestones, and how together we can create even more miracles.

B’shalom,

Matthew C. Levin, President & CEO
Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County
