Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County is proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness month and the 2022 Boca Raton Community Wide Pink Shabbat, taking place Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-29.
Participating organizations include our Women’s Philanthropy Division, Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center, Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services, and several local synagogues.
Leading up to Pink Shabbat, other community events were held, such as a webinar with experts from Lynn Cancer Center, Pink Day at the Adolph and Rose Levis Jewish Community Center (JCC), and a Federation Mitzvah Day program.
The focus of these joint efforts in October is to recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to help women, men, and their families in our Jewish community cope with the stress and complexities of facing breast cancer.
At the recent Federation Mitzvah Day program, Women’s Philanthropy participants gathered to support Sharsheret by assembling care packages for women battling breast cancer. Robyn Siegel, Officer at Large on the Women’s Philanthropy Board, shared, “we’ve come together with one purpose: to make a difference. And what a difference we can make together! That’s what the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County does every day.”
Deborah Litwak, Sharsheret’s Florida Program Coordinator, said, “thanks to the amazing partner organizations of synagogues, community centers, and local hospitals in Boca Raton and Delray Beach, who are hosting events including medical professionals and survivor speakers that bring lifesaving awareness of breast and ovarian cancer, cancer genetics, and Sharsheret support services to our community.”
Litwak wants people to move beyond awareness to action.
“Pick up the phone and schedule your screening. Ask your family about your cancer history. Most importantly, pay attention to your body. If something doesn’t look or feel right, don’t ignore it,” she said. For more information, visit sharsheret.org, email email@example.com, or call 866.474.2774.
With your support, Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County helps teach Jewish values and build Jewish identity by supporting several beneficiary programs, including Sharsheret® Pink Shabbat®.
