  • Share these posts on Instagram and Twitter of Hamas officials in their own words promising to murder Israelis and to wipe the Jewish State off the map.
  • Listen to this CNN interview with Jonathan Dekel-Chen, the father of American-Israeli hostage Sagui, who was last heard from on 9:30 am on October 7.
  • Watch and share the story of 42-year-old Hanan Yablonka, a lover of sports and music and the father of two children. He can often be found playing basketball with his son and taking him to practice. His friends share that they deeply miss Hanan’s “trademark smile.” Hanan went to the Supernova music festival with a group of friends on October 6. Two were found dead, and Hanan is presumed to have been taken to Gaza by Hamas terrorists. His children are eagerly awaiting his return home.

Issue:
Earlier this week, the United Nations Security Council submitted a resolution calling for “an immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in the war against Hamas. The resolution, which had been drafted and submitted by Algeria, was vetoed by the United States, while the United Kingdom abstained.

Background:

  • The U.S. has vetoed three Security Council resolutions about the war since October 7. U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield explained this recent veto saying, “Over the past few weeks we have made incredibly clear that the resolution before the Council would not achieve the goal of a sustainable peace and may in fact run counter to it.” The U.S. also expressed concerns that the text might jeopardize negotiations to release the hostages.
  • White House National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby addressed the issue of a ceasefire saying, “We still don’t believe that this is the right time for a general ceasefire that leaves Hamas in control and alleviates any responsibility for them to release the hostages.”
  • In the Security Council deliberations ahead of the vote Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan said, “A ceasefire achieves one thing and one thing only. The survival of Hamas. A ceasefire is a death sentence for many more Israelis and Gazans. Supporting a ceasefire means supporting the survival of jihadist terrorists that will continue butchering Israelis and endlessly spilling the blood of innocents.”
  • The U.S. veto led to condemnation from countries such as China that alleged that the veto “gave a green light to the continued slaughter.” Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia said that the U.S. is giving Israel a license to kill and called on the Council membership “to counter the lawlessness of Washington.”
  • The U.S. had advocated for a separate resolution calling for a temporary ceasefire, which would be contingent upon the release of all the hostages, as well as an increase in humanitarian aid.
  • As a reminder, Hamas’s stated goal is the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews around the globe. History has proven that Hamas repeatedly violates ceasefires, launching attacks on Israel every few years that continue to be more deadly and involve the use of more sophisticated weaponry.
