Federation missions are journeys with purpose. They connect us to Jewish communities across the globe, foster meaningful bonds with people we might never otherwise meet, and allow us to witness the impact of our generosity firsthand. Each experience deepens our sense of connection and strengthens our commitment to building a vibrant Jewish future.

This September, Women’s Philanthropy experienced that power firsthand during a meaningful journey to Panama.

From touring magnificent synagogues to savoring Panama’s vibrant kosher cuisine, every stop highlighted the richness of Jewish life in this Central American hub. The group visited Kol Shearith, Beth-El, and Shevet Ahim synagogues, each one offering a glimpse into the diverse history and traditions of Panama’s Jewish community.

The mission also provided a window into the institutions that sustain Jewish life in Panama, much like Federation does at home. At Hogar Simjati, a senior center, participants joined older adults in activities designed to nurture memory, coordination, and social connection. The group also came together to pack Rosh Hashanah food boxes, ensuring that families could celebrate the holiday without the added stress of expenses.

At the Isaac Rabin School, an ORT-affiliated institution, participants delivered PJ Library books in English to complement the Spanish-language editions already cherished by students. Sharing stories and smiles with the youngest learners brought the values of education, tradition, and literacy to life in a powerful way.

Beyond these community visits, participants also immersed themselves in Panama’s natural beauty and cultural treasures, from the rainforest and Monkey Island to the marvel of the Panama Canal and the historic charm of Casco Viejo.

“Panama was truly extraordinary. The places we visited, along with the wisdom of the rabbis and the powerful stories we heard, were deeply inspiring,” shared Daryl Mogil, Mission Co-Chair. “The warmth and spirit of the Jewish community there reminded me why we are so united and proud of our heritage. These missions are not only meaningful experiences but also treasured opportunities for our women to share together. I look forward to many more in the future.”

“This mission to Panama reminded us that Jewish life is not only vibrant here at home, but also flourishing around the world,” said Gail Meyer Asarch, Co-chair of the Women’s Philanthropy Mission to Panama. “Experiencing the strength of the Panamanian Jewish community inspired us to return with renewed passion for our work and for the impact we can make together through the Federation.”

Women’s Philanthropy returned from Panama energized and ready to launch the 2026 campaign season. Participants raised essential funds while experiencing the profound power of connection, compassion, and community. Each gift, each story, and each moment together built bridges that strengthen our ties both at home and around the world.
