At the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, creating meaningful opportunities for education, remembrance, and connection remains at the heart of our work.
Recently, Federation’s March of the Living (MOL) department participated in the Jewish American Heritage Celebration at Grandview Preparatory School through its “From March to Miriam” program, a middle school engagement initiative designed to introduce students to Jewish heritage, Holocaust education, and the importance of remembrance through age-appropriate, meaningful experiences.
The program began with a step-by-step babka baking experience, where students learned how to make traditional chocolate babka while exploring the cultural significance of Jewish traditions and recipes passed down through generations. The interactive activity created an engaging and welcoming environment for students to connect with Jewish culture in a meaningful way.
The program concluded with breakout sessions featuring Holocaust survivors and children of Holocaust survivors, who shared personal testimonies and family stories. Students had the opportunity to participate in thoughtful Q&A discussions, gaining firsthand insight into the realities of life during the Holocaust and the lasting impact these experiences continue to have across generations.
As survivors grow older and firsthand testimonies become more rare, programs like these take on even greater importance. By hearing these stories directly, students now carry the responsibility of becoming witnesses themselves, ensuring these experiences, lessons, and memories continue to be shared with future generations.
Through initiatives like From March to Miriam, Federation remains committed to preserving Holocaust remembrance, combating antisemitism, and empowering the next generation to carry these stories forward with understanding, compassion, and responsibility.
