Falling victim to fraud is something too many people have in common.

From text messages that offer dream jobs to bitcoin investment “opportunities of a lifetime,” frauds and scams have infiltrated countless lives.

In April, the Security team of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County held a special Fraud & Scam workshop for the residents of Sinai Residences to help them fight back. Fraud investigators from the FBI and United States Attorney’s Office spoke with an audience of approximately 100 guests, who wanted to take proactive steps to remain safe.

“Our security team wants to protect the community from all threats. While facility and personal security is a critical element, there is a growing threat of frauds and scams that our community needs to protect themselves against,” said Brandon Waller, Federation’s Community Security Director.

In addition to providing training on Situational Awareness and Active Threat response, Federation’s Security team, working as part of the Secure Community Network (SCN), also offers this special workshop designed specifically for combatting a more low-profile, but no less dangerous, threat.

Sinai residents were informed by an hour-long presentation that explained the various scams that seem to be prevalent, how to identify them, tips to avoid becoming a victim of them, and actions to take should they fall victim.
