Thanks to generous donations to the Annual Campaign, the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County is able to support The Community Shower, a hygiene program hosted by B’nai Torah Congregation. This program helps build dignity and self-respect among the unhoused members of our community.
For the past two years, B’nai Torah has provided shower kits, consisting of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel or soap, a washcloth, and a towel, to unhoused people of all ages and faiths. Earlier this year, a large, new shower trailer generously delivered and set-up by Komfort Zone, was added to the outreach, creating many more options for residents than simply a shower. The portable facility allows three participants to enter an individualized, private bathroom space to shower, use the restroom, and conduct other daily hygiene practices.
Summer Faerman, director of Tzedakah, Learning, and Chesed for B’nai Torah Congregation, said that TLC recognizes the need for people to maintain their dignity no matter their situation.
“Cleanliness is next to godliness. Having the ability to take a shower in private and care for yourself with support from your community is priceless,” Summer said. “The shower trailer allows the guests also to use the bathroom and spend the time they need. Everyone has been more than appreciative.”
Here are a few comments from those who benefit from the Community Shower:
