As the war continues, so does our support of our friends and families in Israel.

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County works continuously with our partner agencies to ensure those in need receive support, funding and counseling. Here are just a few examples of the incredible network of care that is being provided, thanks to your generous donations.

With you, we can provide…

… hope for the future for injured soldiers.

Our long-standing partner, Yashar LaChayal, provides thousands of soldiers in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) with what they need, when they need it. From socks and toothpaste to electrical appliances and food vouchers, Yashar LaChayal cares for soldiers, disabled veterans, and their families. Since the start of the war, Yashar Lachayal has helped dozens of injured soldiers by sponsoring specialized treatments, providing equipment for rehabilitation, and facilitating the return to everyday life. Ben, a reserve soldier who was injured, was halfway through earning his degree in Economics when he was called up. While recovering in the hospital, the new semester started and without knowing when he would be discharged, Ben hoped to continue his studies remotely. However, without a laptop, that was not possible. The hospital social worker reached out to Yashar LaChayal, which immediately purchased a laptop for Ben, and he’s now able to continue his studies which is helping him return to a routine, following his injury.

… purpose and friendship to displaced seniors through Yad LaKashish.

Some residents from the north are still evacuated with great uncertainty about when they will be able to return home. Many of our partners have assisted evacuated residents since the start of the war, including Yad LaKashish and the support it offers to Lora, 77, who immigrated to Israel from the Former Soviet Union in 1991. Her home is several miles from the Lebanon border and soon after the war began she was evacuated and moved to her son’s home in Jerusalem, where she now lives with him and his family. She joined Yad LaKashish’s ceramics workshop, and quickly learned to paint on candlesticks and Kiddush cups.

“It is very pleasant for me to be here. It does good for my soul, and it helps me a lot to paint and be busy,” Lora said.

Yad LaKashish remains committed to continuing to provide their elderly artisans with a safe, healthy, daily routine in a warm, supportive community. In 2023, Yad LaKashish served more than 21,000 hot nutritional lunches.

… a caring midwife to a pregnant woman through the Israel Midwives Association.

Following October 7th, pregnant women whose partners were killed or incapacitated were left to navigate pregnancy, labor, and delivery alone. With funding from the Jewish Federations, the Israel Midwives Association accompanies Israeli women through this emotional process.

A second program was created to assist pregnant women in Israel’s north to prepare for the possibility of disconnection from medical care. Hundreds of pregnant women are receiving support from a midwife near their homes including an emergency childbirth briefing session and an individualized plan in case reaching a medical center is not possible due to the security situation.
