Dear Friends,
We are proud to share a significant and meaningful milestone in the life of our Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center (Levis JCC).
On Monday, January 26, Levis JCC leadership officially closed on the purchase of its building from our Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, securing the permanent home of the Levis JCC and affirming a long-term commitment to building vibrant Jewish life within the secure, collaborative communal environment the campus provides.
Originally built in 1999, over the years, the building has become a vibrant hub of arts, culture, and learning, setting a standard for excellence in programming and community engagement. In 2022, the Levis JCC’s administrative offices, along with Marleen Forkas Camps and the Helene & Roy Schwedelson Special Needs Department, relocated to the building, joining the Phyllis & Harvey Sandler Center, and deepening its importance as a center of connection, inclusion, and growth. Levis JCC’s Betty & Marvin Zale Early Childhood Learning Center remains in its original location, a beloved spot on our campus. The preschool, home to more than 300 families, underwent a renovation of classrooms, playgrounds, and the lobby last year. Our Levis JCC Resale Boutique remains operating in the same location it has occupied for the last nine years in The Shops at University Park in East Boca Raton.
“This purchase marks a historic and deeply meaningful moment for the Levis JCC. Securing our building from the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County ensures a permanent home from which we can continue to serve, strengthen, and welcome the community today and for generations to come. It was a thoughtful and collaborative deal that benefits both organizations, but most importantly, benefits the local Jewish community,” said Steven Clarfield, Levis JCC Board Chair
“Purchasing the building that serves as our JCC Foundation stone on this one of a kind 100-acre Jewish campus here in South Palm Beach County is incredibly gratifying and one of the highest sources of pride during my 40 year and counting career in Jewish communal service.” – Marty Haberer, Levis JCC President & CEO
As part of the exciting and successful Elevating Our Future Capital Campaign, plans for a complete renovation of the Levis JCC building were announced in 2024, reflecting a vision for a modern, welcoming, and future‑ready Jewish Community Center. Throughout this journey, a strong partnership of dedicated lay leadership and professional staff, working collaboratively with the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, helped guide the organization as the opportunity to purchase the building was thoughtfully explored and ultimately realized.
The Federation campus was created to serve as the central hub for Jewish life in South Palm Beach County, a place where community institutions come together with shared purpose. The Levis JCC’s decision to purchase its home here reflects an intentional commitment to that vision, ensuring that future generations will continue to experience Jewish culture, learning, and connection within this vibrant communal setting.
“Federation’s responsibility is to help create the conditions for Jewish life to flourish, through strategic planning, communal investment, and strong partnerships. This is an investment in legacy, continuity, and the future of Jewish community life in South Palm Beach County, and we are proud to play a role in this historic step forward.” – Igor Alterman, Chief Executive Officer, Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County
“We celebrate this milestone alongside the Levis JCC and take great pride in the enduring partnership that makes our campus such a unique center of Jewish life. This next phase represents strength, vision, and shared commitment to the future.” – Jill Rose, Board Chair,
Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County
This purchase is more than a real estate transaction. It is a deliberate and symbolic decision to cement the Levis JCC’s long-term presence on the Federation campus, choosing to be part of a shared communal ecosystem where Jewish life can flourish in a safe, secure, and strategic environment.
We are deeply grateful to the leadership, donors, and community members whose belief in this vision made this moment possible. We look forward to sharing more as renovation plans move ahead and as we continue building a Levis JCC that reflects the strength, creativity, and values of the community it serves.
With gratitude and pride,
Steven Clarfield
