Safety Net Services

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County cares for its community by providing Safety Net Services, or support for those who are suffering from setbacks, isolation/loneliness, mental health issues, neglect/abandonment or simply dealing with life’s various challenges.

When the strong are weakened by an unforeseen crisis – be it a pandemic, war, natural disaster, unemployment, mental health breakdown or loss of a loved one – we are there. Always.

“If someone told me three years ago, I would have my AA (degree) at 18 and be just two days out from moving to Gainesville and starting my junior year at my dream school, the University of Florida, I would not have believed them! But this just goes to show that with the right mindset and the right environment nothing is impossible.” – Chana, a young woman whose life radically changed for the better, after participating in JAFCO’s Group Home program, which is supported by the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. Jewish Life and Learning

Unless Jews feel a connection to their heritage, they will disappear. I’m very proud of our heritage, and what a small percentage of the population has contributed to the world at large. I don’t want us to disappear.” – Naomi Kramer, transformational donor of the William K. & Naomi Kramer Fund for Jewish Life and Learning.

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County instills pride and connection among Jewish people everywhere, by promoting Jewish Life & Learning. Whether it is supporting a Challah Bake and an Adult Education studies program or awarding a scholarship to a Jewish day school and organizing Chanukah celebrations, Federation keeps Jewish people in touch with their rich heritage.

We foster personal and enduring relationships between Jews in South Palm Beach County to Jews in Israel and around the world. But most importantly, we encourage Jewish people to build a positive sense of esteem within themselves, so they can continue to build upon the amazing legacy they’ve inherited.

There’s something deeply profound about the bond that forms between generations when stories are shared and listened to with reverence. Supported by generous grants from the Jewish Women’s Foundation and the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, “From March to Miriam,” an initiative bringing together 7th and 8th grade students with local Holocaust survivors, embodies this sentiment beautifully. It is a passing of wisdom and experience from l’dor v’dor (generation to generation).

“The program is so important to me. I love it so much,” said Hershel, a local Holocaust survivor and “From March to Miriam” program participant. “The time I get to speak and be with teens and the ongoing connections I have developed is such a highlight for me.”

“She loved the place,” said Shari Letzter, a resident and employee of JARC, a Federation-supported nonprofit agency, dedicated to the care of people with special needs. Shari was speaking about her late mother, who toured JARC before she passed away. Shari was living alone for a year, after losing her mother, father, and older brother, before she moved into a JARC residential apartment and changed her life.

When Shari moved into JARC, she was assigned a Supportive Living Coach. Three years later, she is a JARC employee, working full-time as a front desk assistant, or as they call her the, “Director of First Impressions”. Her big personality, sense of humor, friendly nature and physical independence makes her successful at her job. With prior experience working in Burdine’s-Macy’s, Shari used to enjoy working in customer service until she had to devote herself to her mother’s care.

Thanks to your generous support, JARC creates new pathways for all of its residents. From creating new homes through its Residential programs to creating new careers in its Vocational training and Community Works programs, JARC ensures that its clients are never alone again.

Israel & Our Global Family

When we state that we help Jewish families thrive locally, in Israel and around the world, we sincerely mean that the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and its partners aid Jewish communities, no matter where they are.

Our Federation family has welcomed Israelis who fled their neighborhoods, following October 7th, to become a part of ours, here in South Palm Beach County – just as we’ve welcomed citizens of Ukraine, as they passed over the Poland border into safety, marked by the billowing flag of Israel -- just as we’ve sent aid to people in Hawaii, Texas, and in northern Florida, who have been ravaged by natural disasters. From our relationships in our partner-sister city of Zichron Yaakov, Israel, to work we continue to support, assisting communities with rebuilding, we are a part of a global society. Every gift given locally travels so far!

“We were evacuated to this hotel at the Dead Sea. Our entire system collapsed, our educational system…everything. My whole life flashed before my eyes. I was certain that I wouldn’t make it out alive. If there’s one thing, one thought, one predominant feeling, it’s to protect the souls of our children, our babies,” he said, reflecting on the harrowing experience. Sderot, an entire town of people, was evacuated to a hotel near the Dead Sea almost overnight. Amidst the chaos, JDC helped to reinvent daily life for the displaced community within the confines of a hotel. Read more here.

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County continues to aid long-time partners in Israel, as well as newly formed partnerships, as they offer critical assistance to Israelis, who are recovering from the war.

Ido, an evacuee from Sderot in southern Israel, vividly recalls the night when his entire world was upended.
