Volunteers and Community Count for Super Sunday Success

Every one made every call count on Super Sunday! Raising spirits, awareness, and – so far - an impressive $501,990 on March 30, hundreds of dedicated Super Sunday volunteers made their efforts count in the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County ‘s annual Super Sunday Phone-A-Thon. With community support still being counted, the pledges keep coming in and adding up, as local residents continue to respond with resources to help meet the needs of the Jewish community locally and around the world.

“The community support and the volunteer effort added up to a truly successful Super Sunday,” said Jill Shavitz, who, along with her husband, Jeff and Eric and Susan Lebersfeld served as Event Co-chair. “The energy and enthusiasm of every volunteer made the day spectacular.” It was a family affair for the co-chairs, whose parents and siblings proudly cheered them on during a full day on the phones.

Working the phones during three two-hour shifts throughout the day, each volunteer contributed to the spirited energy in Zinman Hall as Super Sunday calls were made, successful pledges were excitedly announced, great raffle prizes were awarded, and the community synergy was palpable in this important effort. Volunteers even enjoyed the opportunity to make a hole-in-one on the Super Sunday putting green! The spirit of community extended across ages. Large delegations from AEPi fraternity in the morning and our local teens at the afternoon shift boosted spirits as well as the fundraising efforts.

The Super Sunday Mitzvah Project Food Drive added another dimension to the extraordinary day. Donations of non-perishable food, personal toiletries and kosher for Passover food were collected to stock the Jacobson Family Food Pantry at Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services.

“Everyone truly did count on Super Sunday. People of all ages and stages of life, of all Jewish backgrounds and from throughout South Palm Beach County joined in. They came together to help Federation reach out and count on the support of this community. The impressive turnout of teens to seniors and everyone in between made a great difference for our Jewish community and our people,” said Eric Lebersfeld.

Super Sunday was generously sponsored by BB&T, and by In-Kind Sponsors Hotwire Communications, Wizard Creations and Atlas Party Rental.
