Lions Roar with #1 NYT Bestselling Novelist Jennifer Weiner
January 30, 2020 at The Polo Club of Boca Raton for the most awaited annual event in local women’s philanthropy: The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s Lion of Judah Luncheon. The roar from their annual ingathering at The Polo Club resounded throughout the community and across the globe, where every day their efforts are saving lives and strengthening Jewish life.
“Just look around this room. The power and philanthropy we represent are incredible and life changing!” said Jeanne Fibus, who chaired the inspiring, elegant event with Shelly Snyder.
The #1 NYT bestselling novelist Jennifer Weiner headlined the luncheon with wit, warmth and insight. The Lions reflected on the impact of our Russian Resettlement program years ago with a moving video, and on our vital work to address anti-Semitism and security today with Women’s Campaign Chair, Karen Dern.
Part of a worldwide sisterhood of 17,500 women, the Lions of Judah each contribute a minimum of $5,000 each year to their local Federation. With over 700 Lions of Judah, the South Palm Beach County pride is one of the largest in the country. Fifty-five new Lions were welcomed at the Luncheon.
In addition, South Palm Beach County continues to lead the nation in endowed Lions of Judah, now with 326 LOJES. At the luncheon, Dale Filhaber, Women’s Philanthropy Vice Chair, Planned Giving & Endowments, welcomed new LOJEs and led a moving candle lighting ceremony honoring the endowed Lions lost this year, but whose philanthropy lives on.
“I understood that the only way to ensure that what we have built here will be there for the generations to come was to make sure that my current gift to the Federation’s Annual Campaign would continue forever,” said Shelly Snyder about endowing her Lion gift this past year.
The Lion of Judah Luncheon is generously sponsored by Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation/Baptist Health South Florida and Glenmede. Ivan & Co. Jewelers and Atlas Party Rental are In-Kind sponsors and The Boca Raton Observer is Exclusive Magazine Sponsor.
