Jewish Women’s Foundation to Announce Grants at Reception with Acclaimed Jewish Author

The Jewish Women’s Foundation (JWF) of South Palm Beach County will host its 2017 Granting Wishes evening on Wednesday, March 15 at 5:30 p.m. Gathered at the beautiful Boca Rio Golf Club, 22041 Boca Rio Road in Boca Raton, guests will be first to learn about JWF’s 2017 grant awards. They’ll also hear from an award-winning Jewish author.

“We are delighted to have award-winning author and acclaimed speaker Ellen Brazer as our 2017 Granting Wishes guest speaker,” said Hinda Bramnick, who is co-chairing the event with Gina Lohmann. “While Ellen’s books and stories vary, one thing remains constant – her deep and abiding love for Israel and the Jewish people.” The recipient of Hadassah’s prestigious Myrtle Wreath Award, Ellen’s newest book is The Wondering Jew, My Journey into Judaism.

“We’re proud to welcome people of all ages from across the Jewish community to celebrate our 2017 grant awards,” said Lohmann. JWF wishes are granted through a highly judicious process to fund programs that create social change. Over thirteen years, JWF has awarded more than $1.2 million to fund initiatives that help women and children in areas related to education, health, abuse prevention and economic security.”

"These dollars are donations from the JWF Trustees who contribute a minimum of $2,000 per year for five years, and determine the programs to fund,” said JWF Chair Alice Kemper. “Each of us has a choice of where to put our time, resources and money. In this critical time for women and children, JWF, with our hands-on philanthropy grant process, advances the lives and opportunities of Jewish women and children locally and abroad. We are highly rewarded and proudly wear the badge of agents of change."

Of JWF’s ten grants in 2016, six were for projects in Israel, and four were allocated locally to: March of the Living for a program that bonds students and others with Holocaust survivors; the PJ Our WayTM tween reading program, Employ JARC, and leadership development with Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach.

The Granting Wishes event includes an array of heavy hors d’oeuvres, desserts and wine, with dietary laws observed. The couvert is $85 per person, and all are welcome to attend. Ellen Brazer is an award-winning author, and the recipient of Hadassah’s prestigious Myrtle Wreath Award, previously won by the late Maya Angelou. Ellen’s newest book is The Wondering Jew, My Journey into Judaism. Her book, Clouds Across the Sun, has been listed on Amazon under the best Holocaust-related novels. And her So It Was Written premiered as a bestseller under Jewish Literature on Amazon. Over the past three years, Ellen has spoken to over 6,000 people at venues throughout the country.
