ISRAEL FIRE EMERGENCY: Join Our Community’s Response

Please join our community in a national Jewish response to the devastating fires in Israel. Nearly 100,000 people in Israel have been evacuated from their homes as more than 200 fires rage across the country, threatening populated as well as forested areas. Major roadways have been closed and essential services have been interrupted. Homes and apartment buildings have been destroyed, leaving their residents homeless, many of whom in Haifa are elderly and Holocaust survivors. Schools and synagogues have been damaged.

While firefighting assistance from many countries including the U.S. have joined Israel’s forces in fighting the blazes, dry conditions and strong winds continue, and arson is suspected in several cases. Israelis from all segments of society have opened their hearts to assist one another. Federation’s partner agencies on the ground are assessing and responding to emergency needs such as opening psychological trauma centers in hospitals, emergency housing for seniors, and a 24 hour hotline for people with disabilities. Their efforts will be ongoing, as the impact of the fires on Israelis will be long-lasting.

As always, with open arms and hearts, our community stands proudly with our Jewish family in Israel. Please join us and compassionate Jewish communities throughout the country in a powerful humanitarian response to this devastation and displacement. One hundred percent of all dollars contributed to the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) Israel Fire Emergency Fund will quickly provide critical assistance where it is most needed.
