For a third year, our Jewish community came together in all its vibrant diversity with one purpose at THE EVENT: to celebrate all the good we do together and get inspired to do even more for those who depend on us. From our 40 synagogues, Federation partner agencies and schools; from longtime leaders and donors to newcomers; and from multiple generations - a crowd of more than 600 filled the rooms at Boca West Country Club with ruach on February 3. They cried and cheered for Israeli hero Noam Gershony and, with generous underwriting from Joan Garde, they roared with popular performer Larry Miller.

Some of Federation’s generous, committed women will spend an exceptional morning together on March 3. Of all ages and from throughout the community, the Pomegranates will gather at 9:30 am in Griffin Gallery, 608 Banyan Trail #113 in Boca Raton to hear from Jane Weitzman, Jewish philanthropist and former leader of Stuart Weitzman Shoes.

As part of its ongoing advocacy efforts, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County brought our community’s State Senators and State Representatives to Federation’s campus to meet with Jewish community leaders in advance of this year’s legislative session in Tallahassee. They gathered in Zinman Hall for the Legislative Sendoff to learn about new and existing issues and program proposals to address the needs of vulnerable residents of Boca Raton and Delray Beach. More than fifty individuals attended the reception and program, including legislators and their staff members, federal government officials, professionals from the Israeli Consulate, local rabbis, and leaders of the JCRC, the Federation and its beneficiary agencies.

Local estate planning professionals committed to philanthropic giving and the future of the Jewish community will once again honor their own at the Mitzvah Society Cocktail Reception at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton. The Professional Advisory Committee (PAC) of the Jacobson Jewish Community Foundation (JJCF) of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, and event Co-Chairs Elyssa Kupferberg and Marjorie Horwin invite colleagues, friends and others to join them in paying tribute to 2015 Mitzvah Society Honoree M. Adam Bankier. For eleven years, the Mitzvah Society has recognized estate professionals who have been instrumental in leading their clients to make planned gifts to the JJCF through the vehicles most appropriate to their particular circumstances. The JJCF develops permanent resources to assure the continuity of Jewish life, programs and services here, in Israel and throughout the world.

The “pride” of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County gathered again to rededicate and celebrate at the most awaited annual event in local women’s philanthropy. The roar from The Polo Club resounded across the globe on January 14, when 350 generous, committed women came together for the Lion of Judah Luncheon. They welcomed new Lions and LOJES and remembered those who had passed during the year yet whose vision and generosity made them Lions Forever. And they listened raptly to two remarkable speakers. JulieSue Goldwasser shared the profound support of her Federation family through her toddler son’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. With humor as well as gravitas, keynote speaker Linor Abargil shared her powerful journey from being crowned Miss Israel and, shortly after a brutal rape, Miss World, to becoming an attorney, anti-rape activist and mother of “three under three.”

Silvers will headline the next Industry Icon Event for Federation’s Business & Professional Division. For almost three years, B&P’s Industry Icon events have regularly been drawing hundreds of professionals to hear from acclaimed business leaders on their recipe for success. Once again, they’ll be gathering in Zinman Hall on the Federation campus. Breakfast (dietary laws observed) and networking will begin at 8:00 a.m. The program will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. The couvert is $36.

THE EVENT is sure to be a night that will make them even prouder. A sold-out, record-breaking crowd filled the room at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton on January 8, as 350 of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s largest donors gathered for this year’s Sandler Family Major Gifts Event. Beginning with a cocktail reception where guests greeted each other as if at a family reunion, the warmth, sophistication and compassion grew throughout the dinner and a program featuring three engrossing speakers; bestselling author Daniel Silva, national broadcaster Jamie Gangel and Soner Cagaptay of the Washington Institute.

We are horrified, profoundly saddened and outraged by the recent barbaric attacks on civic institutions and Jewish targets in Paris. These acts make even clearer the uncertainty of Jewish life in France… and the elevated threat to Jews around the world from global terrorism. We call upon world leaders and all in the global community who value freedom and civil society to rise to this critical challenge of our time. It is also time to act on our thoughts and feelings with financial support for the well-being and security of the beleaguered Jews of France.

We at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County are horrified and outraged by the recent barbaric attacks on civic institutions and Jewish targets in Paris, including this morning’s siege that took the lives of hostages shopping for Shabbat at a busy kosher supermarket. We condemn these acts of terrorism in the strongest possible terms, as we mourn the loss of yet more innocent lives, pray for the injured and express our heartfelt support for those traumatized.

We at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County rejoice with our entire Jewish family at the news that Alan Gross has been released after five years of incarceration in Cuba. His freedom follows extensive advocacy efforts by Jewish communities and others around the world, as well as diplomacy at the highest levels. On his arrival in Washington, Alan began a news conference with “Chag Sameach.” And Chanukah is truly happier with him free among us again.

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County is proud to announce that on December 9, 2014, our Board of Directors approved the sale of land on our north campus to Weinbaum Yeshiva High School. The WYHS Board of Trustees has approved a plan to construct a new state-of-the-art 50,000-square-foot facility.

As eagerly anticipated, a night of celebration, inspiration and illumination was in store for Federation’s top donors at this year’s new Leadership Gifts Event. Nearly 150 guests gathered at St. Andrews Country Club on December 4. Moving the new season into high gear, members of the Federation’s Ketubah Society, Prime Minister’s Council and King David Society reunited with warmth and affection at a cocktail reception, followed by an elegant dinner and enlightening, inspiring program keynoted by Michael Oren, Former Israeli Ambassador to the United States.

Three years ago, the Jacobson Jewish Community Foundation of the Jewish Federation (JJCF) of South Palm Beach County launched “Create a Jewish Legacy,” an initiative to bring the community’s organizations together to prepare for the future. Within a few months, fifteen diverse local Jewish agencies, schools and synagogues* had signed on as active community partners to ensure a strong, vibrant community through planned charitable giving. Representatives from every one of these inaugural “Create a Jewish Legacy” partners were among the roomful of Jewish community leaders gathered on December 1to kick off the initiative’s next phase with the announcement of a vital new resource: the Jacobson Jewish Community Foundation and our Federation are just one of eight in North America chosen this year to partner with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s LIFE & LEGACY Program.

Latkes, gelt, live music, stories, prizes and more are in store for all ages at a free community celebration on the 8th night of Chanukah, December 23, 2014. Everyone is invited get into the fun and bask in the holiday warmth and glow of a giant menorah in the amphitheater at The Shops at Boca Center in Boca Raton. The festivities will begin with crafts, games and storytime at 5:30 p.m. before the candlelighting, sing-a-long and Chanukah concert at 6:00 p.m. This special community event is presented by PJ Library - South Palm Beach County.

We at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County are horrified and outraged by today’s barbaric attack at Har Nof Synagogue in Jerusalem. Our community joins in grief with our Jewish family around the globe as our hearts go out to the families of the four men murdered at prayer in their tallit and tefillin, the brave policeman who later succumbed to his wounds and the many injured. In the strongest possible terms, we condemn this brutal act of terror, the latest and most public in a series of such tragic and absolutely intolerable incidents.

Rabbi Josh Broide has joined the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County as the organization’s first Director of Community Engagement, after serving the local Jewish community in a number of professional roles since moving here in 2000. Most recently, he was Outreach Rabbi for Boca Raton Synagogue. Already a familiar face at Federation, Rabbi Broide’s work will include reaching out to the unaffiliated, building and enhancing Federation’s community partnerships, participating in leadership development and, for Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services, chaplaincy.
