Young women from all across Jewish South Palm Beach County will be teaming up to turn baskets of mystery ingredients and cooking tools in the first-ever Incr”Edible” CHOPPED Competition on April 10, 2018. Before enthusiastic spectators, they’ll compete in a fast-paced battle to WOW the team of “celebrity” judges in Zinman Hall at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. The evening will begin with registration at 7:15 p.m., moving on to the program at 7:30. Guests will enjoy dinner, desserts and wine, with dietary laws observed.

Amid a sea of blue and white flags, banners and attire, on April 18, , several thousand local residents of all ages will once again come together on Israel Independence Day in solidarity and spirit at Mizner Park Amphitheater. Free of charge, this year’s Israel Fest will start at 6:00 p.m. with children’s activities and a fair to showcase Jewish community resources. The program onstage, including a concert by the international Jewish Fusion band, The Shuk, will start at 7:15 p.m. with a Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day) ceremony before the Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel Independence Day) festivities start at sundown.

On March 11, 180 volunteers made sure the phones rang out once again from the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County throughout area. By the end of the amazing day of high community spirits, they had raised $584,578 from 511 donors – dollars that will help our Jewish family from down the street to Israel and across the globe, wherever our community is needed.

Two thousand people had an incredible time together on Sunday, February 25, right on our Federation campus. Joyous, colorful Purim Carnivals have always been part of the holiday’s celebrations around town. But for South Palm Beach County, something exceptional happened this year. Fifteen local Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Chabad synagogues and organizations including the Levis JCC, JARC and PJ Library® changed it up and joined forces to create something phenomenal for everyone.

In the aftermath of the February 14th shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, the impact of seventeen needless deaths and the wounds of survivors and families remain raw. As neighboring communities, we are deeply interconnected. The horrific dimensions of the Parkland tragedy compel us to speak out. Virtually unrestricted availability of semiautomatic assault weapons places our schoolchildren and their teachers in unacceptable jeopardy.

The Jewish Women’s Foundation (JWF) of South Palm Beach County will host its 2018 Granting Wishes evening on Wednesday, March 14 at 5:30 p.m. Gathered at the beautiful, just-updated Boca Rio Golf Club, 22041 Boca Rio Road in Boca Raton, guests will be first to learn about JWF’s 2018 grant awards. They’ll also hear from the award-winning Jewish journalists who co-founded The MOMS.

Siggy Flicker will headline a uniquely engaging and inspiring evening the women’s Spring Finale, at Woodfield Country Club on March 12, 2018, 7:00 p.m. Known for her role on the past two seasons of The Real Housewives of New Jersey, Siggy used to call Boca Raton her home. She is a highly sought motivational speaker, relationship expert, TV personality, author and matchmaker. Born in Israel and the daughter of a renowned Holocaust survivor and scholar, Siggy is known for her messages of self-assurance and empowerment, her no-nonsense yet nurturing advice on love and life, and her inspiration to create a life doing what one loves. Guests will also hear from Alina Spaulding, whose parents struggled for years to leave the former Soviet Union and were successful when the worldwide Jewish community stepped forth.

On March 11, 2018, the phones will ring out once again from the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County throughout the Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Highland Beach areas. Hundreds of volunteers will be making calls to connect with thousands of community members during the annual Super Sunday phone-a-thon. They’ll be offering everyone the opportunity to join in Federation’s incredible work of seeing that, whenever and wherever our Jewish family needs us – from down the street to Israel and all across the globe - our community is there to help. Volunteers are asked to sign up for lively shifts from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. or 4:00 - 6:30 p.m.

On January 18, twelve hundred people from all across Jewish South Palm Beach County were honored and blessed to hear from the renowned Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, one of the Jewish world’s most essential voices of our time. It came as no surprise that the event “sold out” within days. His topic for the evening, “Dignity of our Differences,” resonates deeply throughout the Jewish South Palm Beach County community, where Jewish leaders and community members strive to see that their differences do not create divisions. Rabbi Lord Sacks appeared free of charge at Boca Raton Synagogue in partnership with the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and its Deborah and Larry D. Silver Center for Jewish Engagement.

Every year around the world, joyous, colorful Purim Carnivals are part of this holiday’s lively celebrations. South Palm Beach County has been no exception, with carnivals held by many individual synagogues. But this year, an array of synagogues and other Jewish organizations have joined forces to create something bigger for everyone! The first CommUNITY-Wide Purim Carnival will be happening on Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. on the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County West Boca campus.

More than 450 of the community’s most compassionate, generous women came together on January 10 for the most awaited local event in women’s philanthropy: The Lion of Judah Luncheon. Their roar from their annual ingathering at The Polo Club resounded throughout the community and across the globe, where every day their efforts are saving lives and advancing Jewish life. Inspiring and elegant, the beautiful gathering was led by Honorary Chair, Judy Levis Markhoff, and Event Chair Elyssa Kupferberg, and headlined by two-time Emmy© Award winner, Inside Edition anchor and best-selling author, Deborah Norville.

With profound sadness and the deepest respect we share with you news of the passing of Richard “Dick” Siemens on Sunday, December 17, at the age of 82. Richard was absolutely instrumental in developing our community and in building our Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County campus as its thriving central address, and a home to the Adolph & Rose Levis JCC, Donna Klein Jewish Academy (DKJA), Jewish Association for Residential Care (JARC) and Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services.

Now, South Palm Beach County’s young Jewish families are getting even more opportunities to get involved and meet new friends. Through a recent grant, PJ has engaged three PJ moms as part-time Community Connectors are reaching out to parents around the community for playdates, programs and more.

Today, the U.S. administration announced a plan to move the Embassy of the United States in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, honoring a bipartisan commitment made over 20 years ago in the Jerusalem Embassy Act. The U.S. administration also proclaimed its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The Jewish Federations of North America welcomes this decision, as it upholds our long-standing policy. We also welcome the affirmation of a two-state future negotiated between the parties in which Israelis and Palestinians live side by side, with secure and recognized borders.
