Huge 2nd Annual Community-Wide Purim Carnival March 10 at Federation
Every year around the world, joyous, colorful Purim Carnivals are part of this holiday’s lively celebrations. South Palm Beach County has been no exception, with carnivals held by many individual synagogues. Now, for a second year, an array of local synagogues and other Jewish organizations have joined forces to create something bigger and more exciting for everyone! The second CommUNITY-Wide Purim Carnival will be happening on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. on the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County campus in West Boca.
“Purim is such a festive holiday, and children look forward to it all year,” said Rabbi Josh Broide, Director of the Federation’s Deborah & Larry D. Silver Center for Jewish Engagement. “Last year’s event was such a huge success with 2,000 people, and we heard loud and clear that we had to do it again. So, with our many partners - Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, Chabad and more - collaborating, sharing resources and ruach (spirit), we’re planning another incredible Purim experience that will bring us together in all our community’s vibrant Jewish diversity.”
“Everyone is welcome to join in the fun with rides and carnival games for all ages from babies in laps and up, like Fun Slide, ShockWave, Bounce Houses, a Rock Climbing Wall and game trailers – and to wear costumes!” continued Broide. “They’ll also have opportunities to learn about Purim, and to find out about our amazing local Jewish life.”
“Families will also enjoy PJ Library® in South Palm Beach County’s tented Fun Zone, with Purim-themed games, crafts like making masks and groggers (noisemakers), stories, and a special opportunity to give tzedakah for those in need,” said Elana Ostroff, local PJ Library Director. “They’ll be celebrating and learning with old friends and new.”
“I am so proud of the success of our community-wide Purim Carnival, and grateful that the idea to collaborate across denominational lines was embraced so warmly by the Federation and my rabbinic colleagues,” said Rabbi Dan Levin, Temple Beth El of Boca Raton. “The best way we can truly celebrate the spirit of Purim is for our community to come together to show our collective love for Judaism.”
“In the original Purim story, there were no classes of Jews. At the potential devastation and the ultimate salvation, being seen as one nation was the deciding factor,” said Rabbi Moishe Denburg, Chabad of Central Boca Raton. “Last year, by coming together for Purim, we reenacted that unity. Come join us this year for more fun, for more excitement and with more hands-on learning experiences. Please come and proudly display our beautiful One community.”
Avoid the lines and register early at jewishboca.org/purim. The cost is $10 per child with a $50 family maximum. Kosher food and drinks (ORB supervision) will be available for purchase. The carnival will take place rain or shine. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
