Everyone Counts on Super Sunday & Good Deeds Day at Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County

Hundreds of Volunteers to Assemble 30,000 Meals for Food Pantry and Make Calls

This Super Sunday, with the theme of “Everyone Counts,” the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County is not only relying on the Jewish community to once again answer the call on April 3. They’re also building on last year’s phenomenally successful hands-on helping project by inviting volunteers to be part of this year’s international “Good Deeds Day.” In addition to the hundreds making calls throughout the community, volunteers of all ages will be assembling 30,000 kosher meals for donation to the Jacobson Family Food Pantry at Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services.

The calling will begin in Zinman Hall on the Federation campus at 9901 Donna Klein Boulevard, Boca Raton in shifts from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. From individuals and groups, from country clubs, agencies, synagogues and everyone in between, they’ll come together as one caring community to support the Federation’s vital work to help those in need here in South Palm Beach County, in Israel and throughout the world.

“Super Sunday is the single largest fund raising day of the year for our Jewish Federation, to ensure that – whenever and wherever – our Jewish family needs us, we are there,” said Hal Klein, who is co-chairing the event with his wife, Talia. “But we can't do it without YOU! So we count on our entire Jewish community to make and to answer thousands of phone calls to help fund another year of all the good we do for our Jewish family, from our local neighborhoods to Israel and worldwide. There’s nothing like the energy at Super Sunday, and together we have phenomenal impact!”

Raffle prizes, breakfast, lunch, snacks and great camaraderie will make the day fun for the volunteers, who are asked to sign up for two hour shifts. The first Phone-a-thon shift is from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. (breakfast starting at 9:00 a.m.), second shift 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., and third shift 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. The Good Deeds Day food packaging will take place at 2:00 p.m. in the Loewenstern Cafetorium at Katz Hillel Day School of Boca Raton on the Federation campus.

“For a second year, our Super Sunday Good Deeds Day project is also recruiting volunteers of all ages to assemble ingredients into packages that can easily be cooked to prepare 30,000 kosher meals. These meals will help stock the shelves at the Jacobson Family Food Pantry at JFS,” said Co-chair Talia Klein. “The Food Pantry is one of the many vital programs supported by our Federation – programs that count on our community’s compassion and generosity. On Super Sunday, every volunteer counts, every dollar counts, every person in need counts… everyone counts!”

PJ Library® – South Palm Beach County will have special mitzvah projects in the food-packaging room for families with young children, and students in all grades may earn community service hours for participating in any of the day’s volunteer activities.

“Our Good Deeds Day project is another of PJ Library’s many opportunities for families with young children to fulfill a mitzvah for our community,” said local PJ Library Co-chair Joanna Drowos. “Newcomers as well as seasoned PJ families will enjoy learning hands-on together with others who care. We are also proud that PJ Our Way, PJ’s next chapter for readers ages 9-11, is a sponsor of Super Sunday’s Good Deeds Day project. We invite everyone to learn more about PJ Library’s free books, music and more for families raising Jewish children, by visiting jewishboca.org/pjlibrary.”

Since its initial launch in 2007, Good Deeds Day has grown from 7,000 participants in Israel to, in 2015, nearly 1 million volunteers in 61 countries took part in 11,000 projects, providing more than three million hours of service. More information is available at Good-deeds-day.org.

Super Sunday is generously sponsored by Greenberg Traurig, HJ Sims, Marcus & Levine, Squire Patton & Boggs and Zeuner Realty, and by In-Kind Sponsors Atlas Party Rental and Hotwire Communications.
