Celebrate National Grandparents Day on September 8 with PJ Library® in Boca
Now Grandparents Can Receive the Gift of PJ Library Too!
Whether they live down the street or across the country from their grandchildren, it’s clear that Jewish South Palm Beach County is full of active grandparents. Knowing that so many cherish their role of l’dor v’dor (from generation to generation), PJ Library® in South Palm Beach County offers opportunities to pass the values and traditions so dear to them on to the younger generation.
In addition to offering PJ family activities all around town throughout the year, the program reaches out to grandparents with special activities - including the opportunity coming up to celebrate National Grandparents Day on Sunday, September 8 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. All Bubbes, Zaydes, Savtas, Grandmas, etc. are invited to bring their grandchildren to this afternoon of fun with crafts, stories and snacks, at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, 9901 Donna Klein Blvd., in West Boca.
The cost is $5 per child with no charge for the accompanying grandparent/s. Registration is required at jewishboca.org/grandparentsday and space is limited – so families are advised to sign up soon!
“We know that grandparents have a real impact in transmitting yiddishkeit within their families, and research shows how PJ Library’s books and activities truly succeed in engaging families with young children in Jewish life,” said Elana Ostroff, local PJ Library Director. “So it makes perfect sense to bring grandparents into the PJ Library family!”
More than 1,900 local families raising Jewish children in South Palm Beach County are now receiving free, high quality Jewish books that bring Jewish life right into their homes. An additional 375+ local children ages 9-11 receive books from PJ Our Way™, the next chapter of PJ Library.
And now grandparents from our community and all over the country can receive the gift of PJ Library in their own homes free of charge! PJ Library grandparents (whose grandchildren are enrolled in PJ Library through their parents anywhere in the country) will receive a wealth of resources to help enjoy their important role.
They’ll receive PJ Library books in the mail; monthly emails with recipes, activities and more; updates on the books and activities their grandkids are receiving; PJ Library’s PROOF magazine; opportunities to connect with PJ Library programming locally and wherever their grandchildren live; and surprise gifts. It’s quick and easy for PARENTS to visit pjlibrary.org/enrollGP to fill out and submit the form to sign up their children’s grandparents!
“Our National Grandparents Day celebration on September 8 will kick off our new year of programming - with more opportunities for grandparents to come,” said Miriam Klein, PJ Library Co-Chair from Boca Raton. “In addition to our special grandparents programs, of course they are also welcome to join the thousands of children, parents and grandparents who attend local PJ Library activities. Together our PJ families enjoy stories, crafts, concerts and fairs, and learn about holidays and mitzvot. We pack food for those in need, meet authors, make hamentashen, and visit a farm, bookstores, synagogues and so much more.”
A grandmother from Delray Beach, Donna Brovender discovered PJ Library when looking for ways to connect with her three young granddaughters who live in Columbus, Ohio. “Grandparenting at a distance, I knew I had to be very creative,” she said. “Whenever the girls visit, there’s always a PJ Library activity we can share, like Popsicles in the Park, holiday celebrations and a Pajama Party Under the Stars. To keep up our Jewish connection between visits, I get the same books they are receiving from their local PJ Library program, and read them over FaceTime. PJ also has several books about Jewish grandparents!
