Together We Do Extraordinary Things

Our leaves may not be turning vivid colors, but as a lifelong Florida resident, I’m deeply attuned to the more subtle changes around us this time of year. The commute takes a little longer, the night air is refreshing, our friends return from cooler climes, and the pace in our Jewish organizations picks up in earnest. The joy and reflection of the holidays renews our awareness of how many people, from our neighborhoods to our global Jewish family, need and have come to depend on us to sweeten their lives.

At the Federation, there’s a palpable buzz in the air as we rev up to kick our 2013 Annual Campaign into high gear. In a little more than a week, our dedicated, passionate campaign leaders from across South Palm Beach County will join us at Campaign Ignition to formally light the spark. From there, we’ll be reaching out as never before to continue and build on our long track record, bringing our community together to care for our Jewish family - from our neighborhoods to Israel and across the globe.

No child should go to bed hungry. Every senior has the right to live with dignity. All Jews should be able to live – anywhere in the world – without fear of persecution. That’s why our Federation’s Annual Campaign is focused on helping people in need, rescuing people in danger and keeping Jewish life strong. That’s how one gift has the power to do so much good for so many. That’s how our collective power to help makes such an extraordinary difference.

Could there be a better theme for our Annual Campaign?

• Together, as hunger rises here, in Israel, in Russia and Eastern Europe, we are delivering more meals than ever through our local food pantry and striving to feed Jews who are hungry around the world.
• Together, as a rising number of seniors live in poverty here and overseas, we are committed to bringing services they need right into their homes and neighborhoods so they can stay connected to their Jewish community.
• Together, we are securing our Jewish future, helping Jews right here and around the world obtain a Jewish education, experience Jewish life, connect with our Jewish people and sustain their Jewish communities.

With our holiday season past, I'm glad to be corresponding with you again. If you're just tuning in, I invite you to read my earlier messages about caring for each other and building community, reaching out in new ways, our amazing Federation campus, disagreeing without dislike, women's philanthropy and Jewish education. I also look forward to hearing from you at asktheceo@bocafed.org about how we can work together for the benefit of our community and our people.

Together, let's do extraordinary things,

Matthew C. Levin
CEO Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County
