Raising Nearly $78 Million in Legacy Commitments, South PBC Jewish Groups Celebrate with JJCF

Lay and professional leaders, rabbis and legacy donors from ten South Palm Beach County Jewish agencies, schools, synagogues, and the Federation, gathered for a warm, elegant evening event on November 19 at the Federation. Together, they celebrated their remarkable successes in collectively raising $78 million in 624 legacy commitments from 471 donors for their own and the entire Jewish community’s future as part of the our JJCF Create a Jewish Legacy (CJL) program.

All Ages to Light up 2nd Night of Chanukah at Boca Center with PJ Library® on Dec. 23

Latkes, gelt, live music, stories, prizes and more are in store for all ages at a free community celebration on the 2nd night of Chanukah - Monday, December 23, 2019. Everyone is invited to get into the fun and bask in our community’s holiday warmth and the glow of a giant menorah in the amphitheater at The Shops at Boca Center. The festivities will begin with crafts and story time at 5:30 pm before the giant menorah lighting and musical entertainment at 6:00 pm.

Hundreds of prominent Jewish philanthropists will gather for an elegant and inspiring evening at the annual Sandler Family Major Gifts Event on December 5. This longstanding premier event in local Jewish philanthropy will begin at 6:30 pm at The Polo Club in Boca Raton. Keynoting the evening will be Jewish world leader Isaac Herzog, who succeeded Natan Sharansky as Chair of the Jewish Agency for Israel in 2018 after fifteen years as a legendary member of the Knesset and several ministerial posts.

New Shaare Zedek Medical Center Leader to Headline Industry Icon Event

Amid premium networking, a full array of business leaders and professionals will have the unique opportunity to hear from Professor Ofer Merin, the new Director General of Shaare Zedek, the largest multi-disciplinary Medical Center in Jerusalem, a heart surgeon and an expert in emergency medicine and international disaster relief. Merin will headline the Industry Icon Series event on Tuesday morning, November 19, 2019. Networking will begin at 8:00 am over breakfast (dietary laws observed), and the program will start at 8:30 am on the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County campus west of Boca Raton. The couvert is $50 per person. The series is a program of the Federation’s Business & Professional Division (B&P).

18th Kristallnacht Film Forum to Commemorate, Honor Shirley & Allan Solomon and Survivors, Raise Funds for March of the Living

In commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the event considered the start of the Holocaust, the 18th Annual Kristallnacht Film Forum (KFF) will once again showcase a powerful Holocaust-related feature. Presented by the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and the March of the Living, the Forum will screen Witness Theater on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm in Zinman Hall on the Federation campus. Following each screening, attendees will meet with local individuals who participated in the 2009 production of Witness Theater at the Federation.

As our fourth President, from 1988 to 1991, his Federation leadership spanned a pivotal time of expansion to meet the needs of this rapidly expanding Jewish community, including planning for and building the Siemens campus that we occupy today.

New Grant Helps PJ Library® Build Russian-Speaking Jewish Community in South Palm Beach County – Special Author Event Helps Kick Off New Programming

An important group of South Palm Beach County families raising Jewish children now has exciting new opportunities to participate in Jewish life. Thanks to a grant recently awarded to PJ Library® in South Palm Beach County, an array of special activities for Russian-speaking Jewish (RSJ) engagement are in the works. Russian speaking adults and others are all invited to hear Soviet-born, acclaimed author Boris Fishman will speak about his book Savage Feast/A Memoir with Recipes on September 24.

In addition to offering family activities all around town throughout the year, PJ Library reaches out to grandparents with special activities - including the opportunity coming up to celebrate National Grandparents Day on Sunday, September 8 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. All Bubbes, Zaydes, Savtas, Grandmas, etc. are invited to bring their grandchildren to this afternoon of fun with crafts, stories and snacks, at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, 9901 Donna Klein Blvd., in West Boca. In addition, PJ Library is now recruiting grandparent enrollment!

Nearly three thousand people from all across the local Jewish community had an incredible time together on the afternoon of Sunday, March 10, at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County campus in West Boca. Joyous, colorful Purim Carnivals have always been part of the community’s holiday celebrations. But for South Palm Beach County, something exceptional happened for a second year as local Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Chabad synagogues and organizations again joined forces to create something far bigger and more exciting for everyone.

$100,000 in Grants to Local and Israeli Projects Announced by Local Jewish Women’s Foundation at Reception

The Jewish Women’s Foundation (JWF) of South Palm Beach County hosted its sixteenth annual Granting Wishes Cocktail Reception on March 12 at Boca Rio Golf Club. More than 160 guests from across the Jewish community were the first to learn about JWF’s $100,000 in 2019 grant awards to organizations in the local community and in Israel. The guests also heard from noted educator, businesswoman and social entrepreneur, Barbara Greenspan Shaiman. They honored Alice Kemper for her extraordinary five years of strategic leadership as JWF Chair, and welcomed Randee Rubenstein as rising Chair.

We at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County are horrified and outraged by the horrific attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. Forty-nine innocent Muslim worshipers have been murdered and others gravely injured at Friday prayers. Both mosques and synagogues are now shuttered across New Zealand. No person should ever have to fear for safety in their sacred space.

April 7 will be a most important ONE DAY for the Jewish community, with three great ways to get everyone involved through the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County! Every spring, Federation has a Super Sunday phone-a-thon where volunteers make calls to those living in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Highland Beach. This year, Federation has added Jewish Community in Action hands-on volunteer projects at local service organizations and two Chocolate Seder Pre-Passover Family Experiences.

Considered the hub of the Jewish community for Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Highland Beach, today the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County engages donors, supporters and community partners in addressing and planning for current and future needs of the Jewish community and the Jewish people.
