An important group of South Palm Beach County families raising Jewish children now has exciting new opportunities to participate in Jewish life. Thanks to a grant recently awarded to PJ Library® in South Palm Beach County, an array of special activities for Russian-speaking Jewish (RSJ) engagement are in the works. Russian speaking adults and others are all invited to hear Soviet-born, acclaimed author Boris Fishman will speak about his book Savage Feast/A Memoir with Recipes on September 24.

In addition to offering family activities all around town throughout the year, PJ Library reaches out to grandparents with special activities - including the opportunity coming up to celebrate National Grandparents Day on Sunday, September 8 from 1:30 to 3:00 pm. All Bubbes, Zaydes, Savtas, Grandmas, etc. are invited to bring their grandchildren to this afternoon of fun with crafts, stories and snacks, at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, 9901 Donna Klein Blvd., in West Boca. In addition, PJ Library is now recruiting grandparent enrollment!

The Spanish River High School principal’s statements suggesting the Holocaust may be a “belief” rather than historical fact has garnered extensive attention from within our community and far beyond. A late afternoon of family fun is in store when nationally acclaimed “Jewish rock star” Rick Recht headlines the interactive, action-packed PJ Library® Kick Off into Summer Concert in Boca Raton on June 20. The fun starts at 4:00 pm, and the concert starts at 5:00 pm on the Federation campus in west Boca.

Once again, our community and our Jewish family stand together in grief, in fear and in outrage as we reel from the shooting at Chabad of Poway near San Diego. There is more than ample evidence that anti-Semitic and other hate-filled rhetoric and deeds based on religion have been sharply increasing in the U.S. and globally. Let us continue to bring our community together in the face of the real dangers and the existential threat they pose to our people and other vulnerable groups.

Nearly 300 dedicated Federation and Jewish community leaders celebrated Federation’s milestone 40th Anniversary with an inspiring look back, a review of the past year and a view toward the future at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s Annual Meeting. With power, poignancy and inspiration, the theme “Growing. Evolving. Thriving.” came alive for them on April 10, in Zinman Hall on the Federation campus.

South Palm Beach County will have an exciting opportunity to celebrate Israel’s contributions to the high-tech revolution with an insiders’ view of some of its cutting-edge innovations – on May 8, 2019, the eve of Israel Independence Day. Nearly three thousand people from all across the local Jewish community had an incredible time together on the afternoon of Sunday, March 10, at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County campus in West Boca. Joyous, colorful Purim Carnivals have always been part of the community’s holiday celebrations. But for South Palm Beach County, something exceptional happened for a second year as local Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Chabad synagogues and organizations again joined forces to create something far bigger and more exciting for everyone.

The Jewish Women’s Foundation (JWF) of South Palm Beach County hosted its sixteenth annual Granting Wishes Cocktail Reception on March 12 at Boca Rio Golf Club. More than 160 guests from across the Jewish community were the first to learn about JWF’s $100,000 in 2019 grant awards to organizations in the local community and in Israel. The guests also heard from noted educator, businesswoman and social entrepreneur, Barbara Greenspan Shaiman. They honored Alice Kemper for her extraordinary five years of strategic leadership as JWF Chair, and welcomed Randee Rubenstein as rising Chair.

We at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County are horrified and outraged by the horrific attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. Forty-nine innocent Muslim worshipers have been murdered and others gravely injured at Friday prayers. Both mosques and synagogues are now shuttered across New Zealand. No person should ever have to fear for safety in their sacred space.

April 7 will be a most important ONE DAY for the Jewish community, with three great ways to get everyone involved through the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County! Every spring, Federation has a Super Sunday phone-a-thon where volunteers make calls to those living in Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Highland Beach. This year, Federation has added Jewish Community in Action hands-on volunteer projects at local service organizations and two Chocolate Seder Pre-Passover Family Experiences.

A committed delegation from South Palm Beach County and Broward joined hundreds of diverse Jewish advocates from across the country in Washington DC on February 26, 2019 to participate in Jewish Disability Advocacy Day (JDAD). The annual JDAD gathering on Capitol Hill is an important opportunity for advocates to learn from public policy experts, hear from members of Congress, and meet with their local representatives in support of timely pieces of legislation affecting people with disabilities.

The son of Ukrainian and Russian immigrants, Bill became a towering figure in real estate and in philanthropy, including his overwhelming generosity to the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County.

Schaefer will keynote the season’s second Lewis Katz Industry Icon Series event on Thursday evening, March 14, 2019 at the Federation. Networking will begin at 6:00 pm over cocktails and hors d'oeuvres (dietary laws observed), and the program will start at 6:30 pm.

About 430 of the community’s most compassionate, generous women came together on February 6 for our Federation’s annual Lion of Judah Luncheon. The roar from the ingathering at The Polo Club resounded throughout the community and across the globe where, every day, our Lions’ efforts are saving lives and strengthening Jewish life. Chaired by Diane Feldman and Barbara Werner, the inspiring, elegant gathering was headlined by Jodi Kantor, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter and best-selling author whose work helped spark the #MeToo movement.

Every year around the world, joyous, colorful Purim Carnivals are part of this holiday’s lively celebrations. South Palm Beach County has been no exception, with carnivals held by many individual synagogues. Now, for a second year, an array of local synagogues and other Jewish organizations have joined forces to create something bigger and more exciting for everyone! The second CommUNITY-Wide Purim Carnival will be happening on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. on the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County campus in West Boca.

School may have been out but PJ Library® was most certainly in session! More than 400 children, parents and grandparents gathered together on Tu B’Shevat. Monday, January 21 for a morning of fun with PJ Library in South Palm Beach County at Bedner’s Farm. The cool, crisp morning included a captivating enactment of the PJ Library story of Tu B’Shevat, Birthday of the Trees from Amy Weissman (Miss Amy), music and dancing with Rock n’ Roll Rabbi David Paskin, a hayride through the farm and even tomato picking!
