As part of its ongoing advocacy efforts, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County brought our community’s State Senators and State Representatives to Federation’s campus to meet with Jewish community leaders in advance of this year’s legislative session in Tallahassee. They gathered in Zinman Hall for the Legislative Sendoff to learn about new and existing issues and program proposals to address the needs of vulnerable residents of Boca Raton and Delray Beach. More than fifty individuals attended the reception and program, including legislators and their staff members, federal government officials, professionals from the Israeli Consulate, local rabbis, and leaders of the JCRC, the Federation and its beneficiary agencies.

This August, the Florida legislature as well as Florida Governor Rick Scott has made clear that our state stands tall with Israel. The Florida House and Senate unanimously passed a resolution expressing support for the State of Israel, and Governor Scott released a media statement, “We Must Stand With Israel.” We are deeply grateful for their powerful statements and continuing support for the well-being and security of our homeland.

Reflecting the South Palm Beach County Jewish community’s deep and widespread concern for the kidnapping of three students by Hamas, the JCRC with other community leaders has organized a Community Solidarity Rally to be held on Monday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m, at Boca Raton Synagogue. Speakers will include Chaim Schacham, Consul General of Israel; local rabbis of varied denominations; the JCRC Chair and Federation Pres/CEO Matt Levin.

Vowing, “Never again,” more than 600 South Palm Beach County members of Jewish and Christian denominations joined Holocaust survivors and their families on the eve of Yom HaShoah, April 27. They walked in solidarity from Boca Raton Christian School to Temple Beth El for a deeply moving ceremony that featured survivors, a concentration camp liberator, a March of the Living participant, Jewish and Christian clergy, and other local dignitaries.

Vowing, “Never again,” the South Palm Beach County Jewish and Christian communities will walk together in solidarity in commemoration of the Holocaust at the March of Remembrance on Yom HaShoah, (Holocaust Memorial Day). On Sunday, April 27, 2014, the march will begin at 3:00 p.m. at Boca Raton Christian School. Hundreds of community members will join Holocaust survivors, their families and their supporters to march together on the streets of Boca Raton. Their destination will be Temple Beth El of Boca Raton for a meaningful Holocaust Remembrance program at 4:00 p.m.
