THE EVENT: Celebrating Our Vibrant Jewish Community with Larry Miller

From synagogues, partner agencies and schools, from different generations, from longtime leaders and donors of all ages to newcomers - on February 3, 2015 at Boca West Country Club, hundreds from throughout South Palm Beach County’s vibrant, diverse Jewish community will be coming together for a third year to acknowledge and celebrate all the good we do together. They’ll also hear from Larry Miller, popular film and television actor known for unforgettable roles in Pretty Woman, Best in Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld and far more. THE EVENT is sure to be a night that will make them even prouder. The festivities will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and a showcase of the Jewish community’s wealth of resources, and the program will start at 7:30 p.m.

Sold-out Sandler Family Major Gifts Event Delivers an “Evening of Insight and Intrigue” with Author David Silva and NBC’s Jamie Gangel

A sold-out, record-breaking crowd filled the room at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton on January 8, as 350 of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s largest donors gathered for this year’s Sandler Family Major Gifts Event. Beginning with a cocktail reception where guests greeted each other as if at a family reunion, the warmth, sophistication and compassion grew throughout the dinner and a program featuring three engrossing speakers; bestselling author Daniel Silva, national broadcaster Jamie Gangel and Soner Cagaptay of the Washington Institute.

We are horrified, profoundly saddened and outraged by the recent barbaric attacks on civic institutions and Jewish targets in Paris. These acts make even clearer the uncertainty of Jewish life in France… and the elevated threat to Jews around the world from global terrorism. We call upon world leaders and all in the global community who value freedom and civil society to rise to this critical challenge of our time. It is also time to act on our thoughts and feelings with financial support for the well-being and security of the beleaguered Jews of France.

Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Leaders Condemn Attacks in Paris, Urge Worldwide Response

We at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County are horrified and outraged by the recent barbaric attacks on civic institutions and Jewish targets in Paris, including this morning’s siege that took the lives of hostages shopping for Shabbat at a busy kosher supermarket. We condemn these acts of terrorism in the strongest possible terms, as we mourn the loss of yet more innocent lives, pray for the injured and express our heartfelt support for those traumatized.

We at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County rejoice with our entire Jewish family at the news that Alan Gross has been released after five years of incarceration in Cuba. His freedom follows extensive advocacy efforts by Jewish communities and others around the world, as well as diplomacy at the highest levels. On his arrival in Washington, Alan began a news conference with “Chag Sameach.” And Chanukah is truly happier with him free among us again.

Weinbaum Yeshiva High School to Build on Federation Campus

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County is proud to announce that on December 9, 2014, our Board of Directors approved the sale of land on our north campus to Weinbaum Yeshiva High School. The WYHS Board of Trustees has approved a plan to construct a new state-of-the-art 50,000-square-foot facility.

Nearly 150 guests gathered at St. Andrews Country Club on December 4. Moving the new season into high gear, members of the Federation’s Ketubah Society, Prime Minister’s Council and King David Society reunited with warmth and affection at a cocktail reception, followed by an elegant dinner and enlightening, inspiring program keynoted by Michael Oren, Former Israeli Ambassador to the United States.

JJCF “Create a Jewish Legacy” Community Endowment Efforts Get Boost from Grinspoon Foundation

Three years ago, the Jacobson Jewish Community Foundation of the Jewish Federation (JJCF) of South Palm Beach County launched “Create a Jewish Legacy,” an initiative to bring the community’s organizations together to prepare for the future. Within a few months, fifteen diverse local Jewish agencies, schools and synagogues* had signed on as active community partners to ensure a strong, vibrant community through planned charitable giving. Representatives from every one of these inaugural “Create a Jewish Legacy” partners were among the roomful of Jewish community leaders gathered on December 1to kick off the initiative’s next phase with the announcement of a vital new resource: the Jacobson Jewish Community Foundation and our Federation are just one of eight in North America chosen this year to partner with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s LIFE & LEGACY Program.

The “pride” of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County will once again gather to rededicate and celebrate at the most awaited annual event in local women’s philanthropy. The roar from The Polo Club will resound across the globe at 10:30 am on January 14, 2015, when about 500 generous, committed women come together for the Lion of Judah Luncheon. They’ll roar even louder with a powerful keynote from Israeli national heroine Linor Abargil, an attorney, anti-rape activist and former Miss World.

Light up the 8th Night of Chanukah at Boca Center with PJ Library®

Latkes, gelt, live music, stories, prizes and more are in store for all ages at a free community celebration on the 8th night of Chanukah, December 23, 2014. Everyone is invited get into the fun and bask in the holiday warmth and glow of a giant menorah in the amphitheater at The Shops at Boca Center in Boca Raton. The festivities will begin with crafts, games and storytime at 5:30 p.m. before the candlelighting, sing-a-long and Chanukah concert at 6:00 p.m. This special community event is presented by PJ Library - South Palm Beach County.

Men who care about premium time together and extraordinary travel as well as helping our Jewish family are invited to join friends and colleagues in a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit Cuba. Embarking on January 29, 2015 and returning on February 1, the Men’s Only Mission to Cuba is one of the season’s exciting activities of the Federation’s new Men’s Division. Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Leaders Condemn Terrorist Attack at Synagogue in Jerusalem

We at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County are horrified and outraged by today’s barbaric attack at Har Nof Synagogue in Jerusalem. Our community joins in grief with our Jewish family around the globe as our hearts go out to the families of the four men murdered at prayer in their tallit and tefillin, the brave policeman who later succumbed to his wounds and the many injured. In the strongest possible terms, we condemn this brutal act of terror, the latest and most public in a series of such tragic and absolutely intolerable incidents.

Rabbi Josh Broide Named Federation’s First Director of Community Engagement

Rabbi Josh Broide has joined the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County as the organization’s first Director of Community Engagement, after serving the local Jewish community in a number of professional roles since moving here in 2000. Most recently, he was Outreach Rabbi for Boca Raton Synagogue. Already a familiar face at Federation, Rabbi Broide’s work will include reaching out to the unaffiliated, building and enhancing Federation’s community partnerships, participating in leadership development and, for Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services, chaplaincy.

Yes, it’s time for men of all ages who care about great sports, the best companions – as well as the community, to come together for the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Men’s Division Sports Night and hear Carter for themselves. Now a popular television and radio sports analyst, Carter will join the men on November 19, at St. Andrews Country Club. The $90 couvert includes dinner and drinks (dietary laws observed), starting at 6:30 pm. A minimum Men’s gift of $180 to the 2015 UJA/Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Annual Campaign is required to attend. Men whose Men’s campaign contribution is at least $1,800 are also invited to a VIP reception with Carter.

13th Annual Kristallnacht Film Forum to Support March of the Living and Honor Ruth Taubman

Commemorating the 76th anniversary of what is considered the beginning of the Holocaust, on November 9, the thirteenth annual Kristallnacht Film Forum will once again showcase an innovative and compelling Holocaust-related feature. Presented by the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County and the March of the Living, “Disobedience: The Sousa Mendes Story,” will be screened at 3:00 and 7:30 p.m. in Zinman Hall on the Federation. Michael Spett, who survived the Holocaust as a child through Sousa Mendes’ heroism and remembers him, will speak after each showing. A Patrons Reception between the screenings will honor longtime supporter and philanthropist Ruth Taubman of Boca Raton.

The Power of One Woman: Women’s Season to Open with Holocaust Story of Polish Rescuer– Told by Her Daughter

A moving morning of inspiration and empowerment is in store for women from throughout the Jewish community as our Federation opens a new women’s season. They’ll gather on Monday morning, November 3, 2014 to hear about one woman’s courageous efforts to save Jews in Poland during the Holocaust, as Jeannie Smith shares the riveting story of her remarkable mother, Irene Gut Opdyke. The program will be held at Woodfield Country Clubin Boca Raton. Registration will start at 8:45 a.m, with the program beginning promptly at 9:30 a.m. The $45 couvert includes breakfast, with dietary laws observed.
