The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s new men’s programming ready to build a fellowship of givers to champion the Jewish community locally and globally. Starting off with inimitable style, basketball icon Walt “Clyde” Frazier will hold court at the inaugural event on April 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton. Long hailed as an NBA legend during his long career with the NY Knicks, and for his distinctive skills as a broadcaster, Frazier led the Knicks to the franchise’s only two NBA titles. While there is no minimum gift required, men who contribute $1,800 or more to the annual campaign are invited to a VIP Reception with “Clyde” at 5:30 p.m. before the big event.

In full support, celebration and sisterhood, 85 caring, dedicated women came together for Federation’s 2014-15 Women’s Philanthropy Board Installation. They gathered for the brunch program on March at the Levis JCC Sandler Center. Sometimes in life we’re overwhelmed by an experience in ways we didn’t expect. A Night of Inspiration last Monday was one of those times - for me and most certainly for many of the 400+ others present. Billed as “Six of Our Community Rabbis: One Night – One Stage – One Hour,” and sponsored through our Federation’s new community outreach grants, it sounded interesting. But even as I spoke to the audience at the start of the event, I had no idea we were in for what could rival any TED Talks.

We held a groundbreaking on January 28th with over 400 people in attendance. It was a wonderful celebration for our community with future residents and Federation constituents looking forward together to what Sinai Residences will mean to us for generations to come. Since our groundbreaking, there has been a literal flood of reservations, and we’re now over 90% reserved. If you or a friend or loved one has an interest, now is the time to inquire and reserve your apartment home at the most exclusive senior living community in the area.

We are outraged and saddened by the vandalism that occurred at Chabad of East Boca in downtown Boca Raton on Monday night. Our hearts go out to our friends and colleagues who have had their synagogue violated. We condemn this violent act of unknown vandals regardless of their motive. As always, we are proud of those affected in our community in their refusal to succumb to fear or apathy in response to such acts.

From the President/CEO of JFNA and CEO of JCPA: It is not enough to only expose the true goals of the (BDS) boycotters and their allies. Israel’s supporters must also go on the offensive and drain the swamps of ignorance that allow the poisonous ideas of the Jewish state’s opponents to incubate. Thus, we are taking the initiative to inoculate vulnerable politically progressive sectors, presenting a more factual perspective on Israel and taking prominent leaders to the region to see the real situation firsthand.

It was a glorious morning when more than 400 people gathered in a field on the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County campus on January 28, 2014. Surrounded by local rabbis, government officials, Federation and beneficiary agency leaders and building partners under an elegantly decorated tent, 200 future residents celebrated their homecoming with the official groundbreaking for Sinai Residences of Boca Raton. The ceremony also marked a momentous occasion for the Federation and our entire Jewish community.

I am privileged to serve South Palm Beach County’s thriving Jewish community of 130,000 people. I may be new to this position, but from my 25 years with AIPAC in our region, I know this community’s incredible generosity and dedication to Jewish values and the Jewish people.

The Federation is counting on the Jewish community to once again answer the call on March 30. “Everyone Counts” is the theme and the goal for the hundreds of excited volunteers planning to participate in the annual Super Sunday Phone-A-Thon taking place at Zinman Hall on the Federation campus. Super Sunday inspires a real call to action and shows that each person makes a difference in the effort to support the Jewish community locally, in Israel, and worldwide. From teens to seniors, everyone is encouraged and welcome to join in. Raffle prizes, refreshments and camaraderie make the day fun for the volunteers who only have to commit two hours of their time.

Although the estimated 300,000 Jewish residents in the capital city of Kiev and throughout Ukraine are not outright targets of violence, it has touched them like everyone else. Some Jews in Kiev live close to the encampments and some of February’s deadliest clashes, and are afraid to leave their houses But Jewish Federations and our partner agencies, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the Jewish Agency for Israel, and World ORT, are there. Since we’ve supported Jewish life and organizations in Ukraine for decades, we were able to step up when the need for help intensified.

Some of you may know that February is Jewish Disability Awareness Month. But it’s time for everyone to take notice. Our community offers a remarkable array of programs and services that enable our neighbors of all ages with varied special needs to thrive and fully engage in Jewish life. Of course, there is far more to be done. Together, we must continue our vigilance to determine the gaps, and to develop and expand programs that help families and individuals. It is also up to us to advocate for government resources and legislation to ensure on behalf of those with special needs who are counting on us.

Last week, our Jewish community once again came together in its vibrant diversity to celebrate all the good we do together. From our synagogues, partner agencies and schools… from longtime leaders and donors… to newcomers… and multiple generations, a sold out crowd of 750 filled THE EVENT 2.4.14 with ruach. Looking out, I saw the caring leaders, contributors, volunteers and friends whose generosity and commitment to our people make this Jewish community such a remarkable place to live, give and grow together. And, together, we honored those for whom the good we do has made a vital difference, as they shared their powerful stories.

In addition, traveling with a group of residents from their own community strengthens their connection to and builds leadership for their Jewish community.
