“Food for Thought” with Acclaimed Author to Headline Women’s Spring Education Day

Women of all ages from throughout the Jewish community are invited to a unique opportunity for an engaging and inspirational morning with national bestselling and award-winning author Jessica Fechtor on Tuesday, May 9, 2017. Taking place in Zinman Hall on the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County campus west of Boca Raton, Women’s Spring Education Day: Food for Thought will begin at 9:30 a.m. with breakfast (dietary laws observed).

“We are delighted to offer such a wonderful opportunity for our South Palm Beach County women to learn and grow together,” said the morning’s Co-Chair Robin Baritz. “We extend our warmest welcome to newcomers and we look forward to connecting with many friends old and new.”

Fechtor’s debut memoir, Stir: My Broken Brain and the Meals that Brought Me Home has been hailed as an “exquisite take on how food connects us to ourselves, our lives, and each other.” The book chronicles her recovery from a ruptured aneurysm at age 28, and how she reclaimed her life through food and cooking.

“Through our Federation’s Dorothy P. Seaman Department of Women’s Philanthropy, our women form a supportive community for learning, growing, bonding, advocating and celebrating,” said Co-Chair Andrea Orleans. “Spring Education Day continues our tradition of meaningful programs with enlightening speakers on topics of high interest to our diverse community of Jewish women.”

The couvert for the morning is $45, and women will have the opportunity to make a donation to the 2017 Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Annual Campaign at the event.

Zinman Hall is located at 9901 Donna Klein Boulevard, west of Boca Raton. Women may RSVP online for Spring Education Day at jewishboca.org/wpspring by May 2. For more information, contact Francesca Lewis at 561.852.6058 or francescal@bocafed.org.

A national bestseller and winner of a Living Now Book Award, Stir is an exquisite memoir about how food connects us to ourselves, our lives, and each other.

At 28, Jessica Fechtor was happily immersed in graduate school and her young marriage, and thinking about starting a family. Then one day, she went for a run and an aneurysm burst in her brain. She nearly died. She lost her sense of smell, the sight in her left eye, and was forced to the sidelines of the life she loved.

Jessica’s journey to recovery began in the kitchen as soon as she was able to stand at the stovetop and stir. There, she drew strength from the restorative power of cooking and baking. Written with intelligence, humor, and warmth, Stir is a heartfelt examination of what it means to nourish and be nourished. Woven throughout the narrative are 27 recipes for dishes that comfort and delight.
