Emmy Award© Winner Deborah Norville of Inside Edition and Today to Headline Lion Luncheon
Hundreds of generous, committed members of the “pride” of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County will once again gather to rededicate and celebrate, at the Lion of Judah Luncheon on Wednesday, January 10, 2018. Part of an international sisterhood 17,500 strong, the local Lion contingent of nearly 700 is among the largest in the country.
This year, South Palm Beach County’s Lions will be roaring with two-time Emmy© Award winner and best-selling author Deborah Norville as their keynote speaker. For more than twenty years, Norville has anchored Inside Edition on CBS, the country’s top-rated and most honored syndicated news magazine, and she previously co-hosted NBC’s Today.
“Every year our Lion of Judah program grows stronger and more powerful,” said Judy Levis Markhoff, Honorary Chair of the event. “Our community has one of the largest number of Lions in the country. The Polo Club is located at 5400 Champion Blvd., Boca Raton. Registration at the event will begin at 10:15 a.m., with the program and luncheon beginning at 11:00 a.m. The luncheon couvert is $100, with a Lion-level individual woman’s gift of $5,000 or higher to the 2018 UJA/Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County Annual Campaign required to attend. Two-time Emmy© Award winner Deborah Norville is anchor of Inside Edition, the country’s top-rated and most honored syndicated news magazine. Ratings jumped 15% the week Norville joined the program and have remained high ever since. Under her leadership, the show has consistently ranked in the top ten television shows in first-run syndication. Inside Edition reaches a daily audience of just under 5 million viewers.
The veteran journalist joined Inside Edition in 1995 from CBS News where she was anchor and correspondent. Norville is the former co-host of NBC’s “Today” and anchor of NBC "News at Sunrise." She has hosted the primetime “Deborah Norville Tonight” on MSNBC and the national “Deborah Norville Show” on the ABC Talk Radio Network and been a reporter and anchor for WMAQ-TV in Chicago. Deborah began her career at WAGA –TV in Atlanta, while still a student at the University of Georgia, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude, 4.0, First Honor Graduate.
Norville is also a best-selling author and lecturer. Her book, Thank You Power: Making the SCIENCE of Gratitude Work for YOU (2007, Thomas Nelson) detailing the connection between gratitude and enhanced cognitive function and energy, was a New York Times best-seller as well as a best-seller in South Korea. She is also a contributor to the popular Chicken Soup for the Soul series, and the author of several other self-help books.
Norville is a member of the Board of Directors for the Viacom Corporation and serves on the Compensation Committee. She serves as a director for the Broadcasters Foundation of America and is a past board member of the Girl Scout Council of Greater New York, the Women’s Committee of Central Park and the Rita Hayworth (Alzheimer’s) Steering Committee.
