One Day. Two Opportunities to Get Inspired & Kick Off the Women’s Season with Author Abigail Pogrebin

Women of all ages from throughout the Jewish community are invited to enjoy “An Inspired Journey,” a personal and humorous exploration of the Jewish holidays from author Abigail Pogrebin, as they open the women’s season for the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County on November 7 at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton. Women may join in at 9:30 am over breakfast or at 7:00 pm with lite bites.

17th Annual Kristallnacht Film Forum to Feature The Samuel Project with Hal Linden, and Honor Sam & Bilha Ron

In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the event considered the start of the Holocaust, the 17th Annual Kristallnacht Film Forum (KFF) will once again showcase an interesting Holocaust-related feature. The Samuel Project, starring Hal Linden, will be screened on Sunday, November 4 at 11:30 am and 4:45 pm in Zinman Hall on the Federation campus. Each screening will include a discussion with the producer of the film.

Once again, a vibrant crowd from every corner of Jewish South Palm Beach County came together in testament and celebration of the strength and joy of this remarkable, united Jewish community. With 1,400 Jewish community leaders and members gathered in FAU’s Carole & Barry Kaye auditorium on June 13, they not only observed the fourth annual Jewish Unity Day. They also celebrated the Jewish community of South Palm Beach County’s recent receipt of the prestigious international Jerusalem Unity Prize.

With plenty to celebrate and confidence in the future, the theme rang true for more than 300 dedicated Federation and Jewish community leaders at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s 2018 Annual Meeting on April 24. In a packed Zinman Hall, the warmth and ruach, unity and commitment left no doubt: it’s been a year to celebrate, and the future is ours to imagine. During the meeting, Anne Jacobson passed the gavel to new Board Chair Arthur Goldberg.

Amid a sea of blue and white, nearly 3,500 local residents and leaders came together in solidarity, spirit and vibrant Jewish diversity to celebrate the 70th anniversary – and the miracles - of the modern State of Israel. The enthusiastic crowd was transported to the sights, sounds and tastes of Israel, right in Mizner Park Amphitheater on April 18, as Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day) transitioned into Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel Independence Day).

Knowing that many cherish their role of l’dor v’dor (from generation to generation), PJ Library® offers opportunities to pass the values and traditions so dear to them on to the younger generation. Now, in addition to offering PJ activities all around town throughout the year, the program is reaching out in a new way. To kick off their initiative, PJ is hosting their Grandparents & Special Friends Celebration on Wednesday, May 2. All Grandparents and Special Friends are invited to delve into and celebrate their important Jewish grandparenting role over breakfast at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s west Boca campus. $105,000 in Grants to Local and Israeli Projects Announced by Jewish Women’s Foundation at Reception

The Jewish Women’s Foundation hosted its 2018 Granting Wishes Cocktail Reception on March 14 at Boca Rio Golf Club. More than160 guests from across the Jewish community were the first to learn about JWF’s $105,000 2018 grant awards to organizations in the local community and in Israel. They also enjoyed hearing from award-winning Jewish journalists Denise Albert and Melissa Musen Gerstein, who co-founded The MOMS multi-platform lifestyle brand.

Incr”Edible” CHOPPED Competition Bringing Young Jewish Women to the Table

Young women from all across Jewish South Palm Beach County will be teaming up to turn baskets of mystery ingredients and cooking tools in the first-ever Incr”Edible” CHOPPED Competition on April 10, 2018. Before enthusiastic spectators, they’ll compete in a fast-paced battle to WOW the team of “celebrity” judges in Zinman Hall at the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. The evening will begin with registration at 7:15 p.m., moving on to the program at 7:30. Guests will enjoy dinner, desserts and wine, with dietary laws observed.

Thousands to Celebrate Israel@70 at Free Israel Fest in Mizner Park on April 18

Amid a sea of blue and white flags, banners and attire, on April 18, , several thousand local residents of all ages will once again come together on Israel Independence Day in solidarity and spirit at Mizner Park Amphitheater. Free of charge, this year’s Israel Fest will start at 6:00 p.m. with children’s activities and a fair to showcase Jewish community resources. The program onstage, including a concert by the international Jewish Fusion band, The Shuk, will start at 7:15 p.m. with a Yom HaZikaron (Israel Memorial Day) ceremony before the Yom HaAtzmaut (Israel Independence Day) festivities start at sundown.

On March 11, 180 volunteers made sure the phones rang out once again from the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County throughout area. By the end of the amazing day of high community spirits, they had raised $584,578 from 511 donors – dollars that will help our Jewish family from down the street to Israel and across the globe, wherever our community is needed.

Two thousand people had an incredible time together on Sunday, February 25, right on our Federation campus. Joyous, colorful Purim Carnivals have always been part of the holiday’s celebrations around town. But for South Palm Beach County, something exceptional happened this year. Fifteen local Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and Chabad synagogues and organizations including the Levis JCC, JARC and PJ Library® changed it up and joined forces to create something phenomenal for everyone.

In the aftermath of the February 14th shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, the impact of seventeen needless deaths and the wounds of survivors and families remain raw. As neighboring communities, we are deeply interconnected. The horrific dimensions of the Parkland tragedy compel us to speak out. Virtually unrestricted availability of semiautomatic assault weapons places our schoolchildren and their teachers in unacceptable jeopardy.
