Laurence “Larry” Blair has just become chair of Federation’s Jacobson Jewish Community Foundation, after chairing its Professional Advisory Committee (PAC). The Foundation now has assets of nearly $85 million, and granted almost $4 million in the past year.

With a nationally acclaimed comedian, live DJ and more, on Saturday, June 10, young adults from across the Jewish community will once again demonstrate what a great time can be had while helping the community. Starting at 9:30 p.m., they’ll head into Pavilion Grille in east Boca for a night to remember, and to benefit recipients of the many programs supported by the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. Comedian Jon Fisch has appeared on Last Comic Standing and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

More than 130 lay and professional leaders, rabbis and legacy donors from eleven South Palm Beach County Jewish agencies, schools, synagogues and Federation were feted at a warm, elegant evening event on May 9. Together, they celebrated their remarkable individual and collective successes as part of the local Create a Jewish Legacy (CJL) program with a reception, live music, a keynote speaker, photo and video booths, and awards in Zinman Hall on the Federation’s west Boca Raton campus.

The Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County President and CEO, Matthew C. Levin, has announced a gift of $1 million from Boca Raton residents and philanthropists Judi and Allan Schuman. The visionary gift has created the Judi and Allan Schuman Center for Israel Engagement at the Federation, which will bring our community to Israel and Israel to our community by supporting missions, study and volunteering, expanding Israel programming, and more.

When the lights went down and a live feed from Poland appeared onscreen, the theme of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County’s 2017 Annual Meeting came alive. As larger than life greetings from three members of our March of the Living delegation, Marla Weiss Egers, Rabbi Josh Broide and Hal Klein, infused a packed Zinman Hall on April 25, there could be no doubt: we are, indeed, Our Federation. Our Community. Our World.

The Toby & Leon Cooperman Sinai Residences of Boca Raton, the community’s newest and luxurious Life Plan (also called Continuing Care Retirement) Community, celebrated the opening of its 125,860-square-foot Health Care Center last week. Located on the campus of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, at 21044 95th Avenue South, the Health Care Center serves the non-profit Sinai Residences’ independent living residents, and is open to the South Florida community at large. The Health Care Center also offers the first state-of-the-art skilled nursing center to open in Boca Raton in the last 20 years.

Noam Neusner, Special Assistant to the President for Economic Speechwriting during the George W. Bush Administration; and Matt Nosanchuk, Associate Director, Office of Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs for the Obama Administration, will speak on May 22, 2017 at B’nai Torah Congregation, 6261 SW 18th Street, Boca Raton. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m., and the program will start at 7:30 p.m.

Filled with caring, support and inspiration, dedicated local women philanthropists from across the local Jewish community came together on April 4, 2017 for the annual installation of the Women’s Philanthropy Board of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. Led by Women’s Philanthropy Board Member Jeanne Fibus, the brunch program in Zinman Hall on the Federation campus was also a celebration of their 2016-17 season.

On April 2, hundreds of volunteers made sure the phones rang out once again from the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County throughout the Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Highland Beach areas. And hundreds more assembled kosher meal kits for distribution to neighbors in need as part of the international Good Deeds Day. By the end of the amazing day of community spirit chaired by Talia and Hal Klein, this vibrant, diverse Jewish community had raised $576,758 from 570 donors, and packaged 20,000 wholesome, easily prepared meals kits.

The Jewish Women’s Foundation (JWF) of South Palm Beach County announced their 2017 grant awards at their annual Granting Wishes Cocktail Reception on March 15, 2017 at Boca Rio Golf Club. More than 100 guests from throughout the Jewish community gathered for the announcement of $100,000 in this year’s grants, heard stories of those whose lives have been changed through JWF support, and shared an evening with award-winning author, Ellen Brazer.

Today we join with Jewish and other communities and individuals throughout the world in welcoming the announcement by Israeli police that they have arrested the primary suspect for the majority of bomb threats that have been called into Jewish Community Centers and other Jewish institutions in 40 U.S. states and 4 Canadian provinces. The suspect is an 18-year-old man with dual Israel-U.S. citizenship.

School was out, but PJ Library® in South Palm Beach County was in for 450 guests at Bedner’s Farm on President’s Day, February 20. From babies to grandparents, they spent the morning enjoying PJ Storytime with Miss Amy and craft activities before heading into the fields for strawberry picking and festive hayrides. Now ages 8-11 are invited to a PJ Our WayTM “Meet the Author” event on March 26 and the next PJ parents activity is also coming up.

On April 2, the phones will ring out once again from the Federation throughout the Boca Raton, Delray Beach and Highland Beach areas. “Let’s Talk Super Sunday” offers opportunities for all to be part of what everyone’s talking about: how whenever and wherever our Jewish family needs us, our Federation is there. And, for a third year, Super Sunday is inviting volunteers not only to make calls, but also to join an upbeat, hands-on helping project as part of the international “Good Deeds Day.” Volunteers of all ages will be assembling ingredients into packages for 20,000+ easily prepared kosher meals.

More than 500 strong, they’ll also enjoy hearing from the renowned Brett Ratner, a native of South Florida who’s gone on to become one of Hollywood’s most successful filmmakers. THE EVENT 2.0: FEDERATION UNPLUGGED will take place at Boca West Country Club on March 1. Festivities will kick off at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres, and the program will begin at 7:30 p.m.

As part of its ongoing advocacy efforts on behalf of the community and the Jewish people, the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County invited State Senators, Representatives and their staff to meet with Jewish community leaders in advance of this year’s legislative session in Tallahassee. They gathered on January 31 at the Shirley & Barton Weisman Delray Community Center for the JCRC’s annual Legislative Sendoff to learn about needs of vulnerable local residents and funding priorities of some Jewish agencies that serve them. Joining the legislators were professional and lay leaders from the Federation, JCRC and beneficiary agencies.
