Teachers STEAM Ahead for Students During Educator’s Conference

About the Event
More than 200 like-minded educators from South Palm Beach County Jewish Early Childhood Schools spent a day at their annual Jewish Education Conference. The event took place at B’nai Torah Congregation opening with uplifting music by Miami-born AWARD WINNING, published singer/songwriter and children's recording artist Ms. Susan Linder. After opening remarks by Marilyn Nachman, Coordinator of Jewish Federation of SPBC’s Department of Jewish Education, it was time for teachers to attend breakout workshops focusing on the life and learning skills of children age 2 to pre-K.

Presenters included Orinthia Harris and Brandi Carrington from the Center for Educational Improvement in Washington, D.C., who discussed teaching robotics at a preschool level in “Exploring Robotics;” as well “Art + STEM = STEAM,” which featured curriculum enhancements highlighting dance, movement, music and arts applications in learning.

The group also heard from Dr. Roseanne Lesack, Director of the Unicorn Children’s Foundation Clinics, Mailman Segal Center for Human Development, Nova Southeastern University on “Red Flags of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Behavioral Supports for All Students.” Ines Murray, from event co-sponsor Discount School Supply, showcased how hands-on projects incorporate art to other areas of the classroom such as numeracy, literacy, etc. during her presentation, “Full STEaM Ahead.”

Rivkah Denburg, Early Childhood Director of Torah Tots, along with Miss Susan of “Singin’ with Susan” ended the day with a workshop focusing on “Nurturing Our Seeds: Tu B’Shevat and Jewish Education.
