Jewish Women’s Foundation Grants Wishes and Features NBC’s Jean Chatzky (March 24, 2014)

About the Event
Wishes are granted by Trustees of the Jewish Women’s Foundation (JWF) of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County with a strong moral compass and financial empowerment guiding their highly judicious process to fund social change. Since 2003, JWF has awarded over $700,000 to fund grants that exponentially raise women’s and children’s abilities, education, and independence locally and globally, in categories including: education, health, abuse prevention, and economic security.

Celebrating their success, more than 140 guests, including men and women, gathered at the Boca Rio Golf Club on March 24 for the Granting Wishes Cocktail Reception, as JWF announced their 2014 grants and honored their Chair Mara Reuben for her exemplary leadership. In addition, the event featured guest speaker Jean Chatzky, financial editor for NBC’s Today Show, on financial literacy.

Through a very exciting and interactive grant process, the JWF Trustees voted to distribute a total of $170,000 this year to 9 deserving projects that work to impact and change the lives and welfare of Jewish women and children. The 2014 grantees in South Palm Beach County are: Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach for Jewell, March of the Living for From March to Miriam, and the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County for PJ Library. The grantees for Israel programs are: American Friends of Beit Issie Shapiro for Beit Issie Shapiro’s iPad Project, Center for Women’s Justice for Skill Building and Outreach Initiative for Civil Action Against GET Abuse, Hillel – The Right to Choose for Housing Assistance and Financial Empowerment for Former Haredi Single Mothers, Kol HaIsha for Integration and Employment Readiness for the Ethiopian Community in Israel, Kol Israel Haverim for Cracking the Glass Ceiling – Promoting Young Women to Science, and Women’s Spirit – Financial Independence for Women Victims of Violence for Opening Doors – Preparing Battered Women for Financial Independence as They Prepare to Leave, or Recently Left a Battered Women’s Shelter.

The evening, which included an abundant array of hors d’oeuvres, food stations, desserts, wine and soft drinks, was chaired by Jeanne Fibus and Marlene Silver. The guest speaker was generously underwritten by Marsh and AIG. The Granting Wishes Cocktail Reception was sponsored by Boca Raton Regional Hospital and BNY Mellon Wealth Management. The Boca Raton Observer was the exclusive magazine sponsor for the event.
