JWF Announces $125,000 in Grants at Reception with Israeli Fashion House Leader

About the Event
The Jewish Women’s Foundation (JWF) of South Palm Beach County announced their 2015 grant awards at their annual Granting Wishes Cocktail Reception on March 11, 2015 at Boca Rio Golf Club. Nearly 175 guests from throughout the local Jewish community gathered for the inspiring announcement, and to share a remarkable opportunity to hear Sharon Tal, Head Designer of Maskit – The Israeli Fashion House. Both new and prized vintage Maskit fashions were on display in the U.S premiere of the revived couture brand.

JWF Trustees determine their grantees together, through a collaborative, highly judicious eight-month process. This year, JWF’s forward-thinking, hands-on, dollars and sense philanthropy reviewed 55 proposals before awarded $125,000 to eleven non-profit programs that change the lives of Jewish women and children locally and internationally.

In little more than a decade, our local JWF has awarded more than $875,000 to fund programs that exponentially raise Jewish women’s and children’s abilities, education and independence locally and globally, in categories including education, health and abuse prevention and economic security. These dollars are all donations from the JWF donors, called Trustees, who contribute a minimum of $2,000 per year for five years.

JWF’s 2015 grants were awarded to three local programs: JARC FLORIDA/Café 95’s L.E.A.P. Program, MARCH OF THE LIVING/From March to Miriam (2nd year), and Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services/Let’s Get Healthy (2nd year).

Eight programs in Israel also received grants: CENTER FOR WOMEN’S JUSTICE-Initiative for Civil Action against Get Abuse, EDEN CENTER-Abuse Prevention & Women’s Health Education with Mikveh Attendants, ISRAELI ASSOCIATION FOR CHILD PROTECTION-Training Ethiopian Social Workers to Work with Abused Ethiopian Children & Their Families, HADASSAH-From Addis Ababa to Jerusalem Family Shabbaton, INTERNATIONAL BEIT DIN-Social Media Initiative, ISRAEL MUSEUM OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY & SPACE-Girl Powered Science, TOGETHER BEYOND WORDS-Developing Leadership and Empathy through Theater and Group Work, WOMEN’S SPIRIT-Preparing Battered Women for Financial Independence.

The appreciative audience learned about Sharon Tal’s determined, principled rise to head Maskit via Lanvin and Alexander McQueen in London. Maskit’s substance and history resonated powerfully with JWF’s vision to empower, engage and envision women worldwide. The fashion house was founded in 1945 by Ruth Dayan, wife of Moshe Dayan. Ruth was determined to empower women and aid impoverished immigrants by employing them to design and produce authentic arts and crafts.

The evening, which included an abundant array of hors d’oeuvres, food stations, desserts and wine, was led by JWF Chair Alice Kemper, and Granting Wishes Co-Chairs Roseanne Kadis and Rosalyn Silver.
