Jewish Women’s Foundation to Grant Wishes and Feature Bestselling Author Marci Shimoff

The Jewish Women’s Foundation (JWF) of South Palm Beach County is hosting its 2016 Granting Wishes cocktail reception on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at Boca Rio Golf Club, 22041 Boca Rio Road in Boca Raton. Guests will be the first to learn about JWF’s 2016 grant awards and will have the opportunity to hear from guest speaker Marci Shimoff.

“We are delighted to have New York Times bestselling author Marci Shimoff as our 2016 Granting Wishes guest speaker,” said Janet Sahr, who is co-chairing the event with Cindy White. “Thanks to the success of her Chicken Soup for the Soul self-help books, Shimoff is one of the most popular female nonfiction authors, and is also recognized as one of the nation's leading experts on happiness, success and unconditional love. As president and co-founder of the Esteem Group, she delivers seminars on personal fulfillment and professional success, and we look forward to hearing her inspirational message as she shares valuable insights with us on these topics and more.” (see additional information about Marci Shimoff below)

Wishes are granted by JWF Trustees through a highly judicious process to fund programs that create social change. Committed to engage, envision and empower, the group awarded $125,000 in 2015 to fund non-profit programs. In just over a decade, JWF has awarded more than $1 million to fund initiatives that help women and children in areas related to education, health and abuse prevention and economic security. And these dollars are all donations from the JWF donors, called Trustees, who contribute a minimum of $2,000 per year for five years and, together, determine the projects to be funded.

Alice Kemper, Chair of the Jewish Women’s Foundation and a Trustee since 2006, is proud to be part of this dynamic and dedicated group of women, and appreciates the life-changing impacts that JWF has on grant recipients.

“JWF offers an incredible opportunity for Jewish philanthropists to gain a global perspective on what needs to be done to improve the lives of Jewish women and children,” she said. “Everyone comes to JWF with their unique talents and collaborates as part of a hands-on, interactive group. Each Trustee has a voice in deciding how to allocate the funds and to which causes to contribute. We come away as stronger and empowered funders, and learn how to use philanthropy effectively. It’s truly rewarding to see how our grants can make a difference for people and organizations both locally and abroad. ”

Of the 11 grants JWF funded in 2015, eight were for international organizations and three were allocated locally. One of the international grants, given to the Women’s Spirit shelter for battered women in Israel, funded a program called “Opening Doors” that prepared abused women for financial independence as they leave a shelter. Other grants in Israel were allocated toward the Center for Women’s Justice, Hadassah Women’s Zionist Organization of America and the International Beit Din, with the funds earmarked specifically for programs geared toward women or children.

Locally, JWF awarded a grant to the March of the Living: From March to Miriam program which pairs up teenagers with adult March alumna and a Holocaust survivor, who build personal connections through home visits and community events, while bonding with these special seniors. Other local recipients included Jewish Association for Residential Care’s Café 95 and Ruth & Norman Rales Jewish Family Services’ Let’s Get Healthy program.

The Granting Wishes event includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, desserts and wine, with dietary laws observed. The couvert is $85 per person, and all are welcome to attend.
