Jill Rose Takes the Gavel at “Women of Intention” Installation

Filled with caring, support and inspiration, dedicated local women philanthropists from across our Jewish community came together on April 30, 2018 for the annual installation of the Women’s Philanthropy Board of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County. The beautiful spring-styled brunch at the Wyndham Hotel in Boca Raton welcomed the incoming 2018-19 officers, wished a sincere farewell to the outgoing leaders and celebrated a most successful year.

“It is our pleasure to chair the Dorothy P. Seaman Department of Women’s Philanthropy Board Installation, welcomed Susan Rahn, who co-chaired the morning. “Today we have an opportunity to celebrate who we are. We are an exceptional community filled with women who share not only interests and concerns, but also a sense that we all have an obligation to help others and strengthen Jewish life everywhere.”

Rahn’s Co-Chair Wendy Schlesinger gave special thanks to Wells Fargo Private Bank, the overall Women’s Philanthropy Corporate Partner, for their longstanding support, as Larry Katz accepted a gift of gratitude.

Completing her two years as Women’s Philanthropy Chair, April Leavy gave a Year in Review with much to celebrate, including getting very near Women’s Philanthropy’s campaign goal of $8 million, which they fully anticipate reaching. New and younger women have been joining the fold, with 67 new Lions of Judah, 35 new Pomegranate donors and a variety of well-subscribed events and activities. Among those deeply engaged, members of the local Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Development initiatives, Chapter Two and the Leadership Forum were recognized.

“You have broadened our base and created opportunities for education, socialization, social action and leadership,” Leavy said. “Making women’s philanthropy strong, vibrant, united and ever growing, you have set the example for so many to follow those footsteps. One never knows what tomorrow may bring. Our Federation is there for all of those tomorrows and certainly for the needs of today. And our women always step up, step forward.”

A consummate volunteer who has excelled in an array of Women’s Philanthropy leadership roles, Alicia Spero received special recognition as this year’s recipient of the Dorothy P. Seaman Leadership Award. On presenting the award, Emily Grabelsky, a past Women’s Philanthropy Chair, explained that it is bestowed annually to a Women’s Philanthropy Board member who, like Dorothy, is “motivated by her desire to make our world a better place through tikkun olam…repairing the world, and inspires us to strive for the highest level of tzedakah.”

Judi Schuman, Immediate Past Chair, installed the 2018-19 Women’s Philanthropy officers with a slate led by new Women’s Philanthropy Chair, Jill Rose. Following words of wisdom from Rabbi Phil Moskowitz, Rose took the podium to launch the next chapter of Women’s Philanthropy with deep compassion, intelligence, knowledge, inspiration and full confidence of the participants.

Against a landscape of “unprecedented transfer of wealth to women, women taking a lead in charitable giving,” and “the strong foundation we are building upon,” Rose asserted, “the time is right for us to move forward and try some new things.” She called on everyone to keep “speaking up, uniting and taking action by giving, volunteering and using their voices to make change,” and to share their “ideas to help move the ball forward. I can’t wait to see all that we can accomplish together. The time is right and I know we will go from strength to strength.”
